1) I will be replacing my coolant with fresh.

Just wondering what the res. tank should read when hot/cold.

2) I like DINOEVO's egr blanking page, but a wee bit more info on this mod would be helpfull.

I got mine off ebay. It was sent from the UK.
Didn't cost much at all and was a prefect set.
All the bolts and stuff you need.

look for EGR delica in ebay and see what pops up.

I blanked mine, but seriously: Pull the vacuum hose off of the EGR and put a machine screw in it and tie it off to one side. Now that you have done this there is nothing to open the EGR valve so it is basically blanked off. If you actually blank the valve off then you want to use mild steel to make the plate and not stainless due to an electrolytic reaction.

Here are three threads I turned up using our local search engine:
http://www.delica.ca/forum/egr-backing- ... it-13.html
http://www.delica.ca/forum/closing-off- ... 93-15.html
http://www.delica.ca/forum/how-to-fit-a ... html#p2313

When I did it I took the driver's seat out (four 12mil bolts) and took the plate off (seven bolts and five screws? plus the
E-brake cable & fuel hatch switch). You will also need to take the hatch off that is over power steering reservoir & air filter assembly. Generally I found this easier access than trying to get my fingers into dark corners. You can take the EGR valve gasket off and use it as a template and make a 3mil mild steel blanking plate.

Hope this helps you get started. It's not that big a deal when you've done it but a little daunting when you first look at it.

Falco.

Same here. It was cheap. Will probably copy kit and cut a few spares for mates.

Thanks Falco that was a good link (read).

So only is a blank required, if the gate is stuck open all the time.

If the gate functions correctly, then hose disconect and machine screw would do the same thing?

Nice :-)

Yes, but generally the gate doesn't function properly. What that means is you've got hot exhaust blowing into your turbo all the time, which is a real problem when you're trying to climb a hill with a full load or when towing a trailer.

EDIT (with clarification): if the EGR is 'broke' in the shut position, this is generally okay, because then exhaust gases are not being fed into the turbo into the combustion chamber (this is the same as blanking off the EGR); if the EGR is 'broke' in the open position, this is when EGTs will be higher, fuel consumption will be higher, and overall performance is poorer (this is why we blank off the EGR).

Yes, it depends on how well the EGR is working in the first place, often you will find a great deal of sludge from blow-by in the EGR. In fact this is how it started with me. I was at CVI getting some stuff done when I decided to look at the EGR. I pulled it out and discovered that it was very dirty, I mean full of sludge so I cleaned it out and polished it. This made a terrific difference in the performance of the van: The engine started running hotter; my city mileage went from 8.5 km per litre to 6; I noted power loss; clouds of black soot came pouring out the tail pipe.... I was not an happy camper. I readjusted my IP to make it leaner but that did little difference ~ so I blanked out the EGR.

I took really bad pictures on my cel phone but I have yet to post a thread on it, maybe I will add it to Mystery Machines thread, keep it all in one place. Just haven't gotten around to it.

Ok so I found a bolt that plugs the vaccum hose off nicely.

I also observed a very thin plate between the parts where the blank would go.

Is this a gasket of some kind? OR was it blanked in Nipon?

I am on the highway tomorrow, what should I notice in performance if anthing at all, assuming the bolt works?

The gasket looks like this:

The blanking plate looks like this:

The two together:

If your EGR is in good shape then having removed and stopped off the vacuum tube you should notice a 25% mileage gain and more power with less pollution when you accelerate. Your EGR might be full of sludge, which could mean it is already blocked off or that it is blocked open, as Mararmeisto noted. You pretty much need to open it up to see what it looks like inside, or to put the mild steel blocking plate in.... See how it feels tomorrow.

Not a noticable differance, but I did get a rock chip during my adventure.

Kudos for your input and help :-D

Side note: $20.00 can prevent further windsheild cracking if caught early.

As the sign entering Radium reads, "The Mountains will bring peace to the peolpe".

So does a happy delica!!

By the way, I posted my photographic experience in Mystery Machine's thread, as an addendum, in FAQs/Delica Canada Technical. Not sure if you have seen it.

Done.

It took an hour to do.

I installed it via the engine compatment only.

Copy plate onto 1/16" metal.

Cut. Drill. Re-install.

Thanks again for your help Delica luvers!!
