Hello,

Im new to the forum and I am researching what type 4 wheeler to aquire.
I have been browsing this forum, but havn't come across any 4x4 pics, are these Delicas for touring or can they get down and dirty in the mud and do some rock/hill climbing to get one to remote lake campsites?

Any links will be greatly appreciated,

Thanks!!

The Rammstein music track is just a bonus, but this is one of the videos that suggested to me that an L400 can indeed go offroad quite well.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5-bta0Ou7JA&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5-bta0Ou7JA&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>[/youtube]

*EDIT*

IMO, the L300 is better offroad overall, but for highway use the L400 wins out. When it comes to the L400, the SWB is better offroad than the LWB due to departure angle. I have a LWB L400, and it still goes offroad just fine, in fact it has been beating my 1989 4Runner in performance on the nasty logging roads on the island.

Here's a fex pics of my travels with my cousin. There are many to choose from of course but this might give a little cross section of what you are looking for. My opinion of these vans is that they are VERY capable for what they are and because of their size can get into (and out of) some tight spaces.

Always remember though, like all forms of off-roading, you shouldn't travel alone, but if you do, always have some form of self-recovery equipment with you and don't put yourself in a place of no return. Having seen your user name though, I figure you probably know this already.

Cheers!

Hello All, thank you so much for your replies, info and links. They have all been useful.

Today I went out and looked at about 8 Delicas at Assinboine motors and Silk road motors.
Most of the vans for sale were the 93-94 L300 and the was one pretty nice 95 L400 with roof rack and back ladder.

What I noticed was, L300 have the motor under the front seats like a Previa and the L400 was under a hood. As well the suspension was different.

I didnt get a good view of the fronts, but Im guessing they are both IFS?

Which is proven better for rocks and trails?

Thanks again!!!!!

Point of reference: The seats are over the axle. The engine is behind the axle, the engine is behind the seats. Which is one of the reasons why it is such a well balanced off road vehicle, imho.

Thanks man!... Pics were taken with two cameras, one is mine and the other my cousin's. Both are Canon Digital SLR's - mine is a Rebel XS with standard 18-55 lens.

Noticed you currently have an Armada  .... you will find a difference with a Delica. I am partial to the L300. Had considered "upgrading" to a 400 but I have decided that I really like being on top of the front wheels, and now that I have lifted mine as well, I love it even more. Not to knock the 400's, just my preference now.

Good luck with your search!
Ian
