Lighter problem

Hi all,
we're on a trip in South Portugal in our camperized L300 with a lighter problem. It is a pity because i had no time to install a second battery and it is our only energy source! I could use a voltmeter from a local mechanic and test it, it is ok so that's the lighter it self that is broken (a piece inside looks like missing).
Problem is i don't get how to get it out! I have removed the center console (it's a LHD commercial 4x4 L300 but it looks like my old japanese import) and i can remove pretty everything (fan and heater, front light height, etc) except the lighter!
Does someone has a clue about how to do that?
Another question: would it be reasonable to put 2 cables straight on the battery with a 16A fuse and get my juice from here? I don't have so many tools with me and i think to install a second battery on the road would be a bit too much (we are in quite a lost place).
Any suggestion welcome!
Thanks,
STL
BTW, South Portugal is very nice with our L300, ground clearance is perfect for all these dirt tracks.
