Changed out my front Shocks today,And what a Difference!!When I pulled out the old ones they were original and Totally shot!!
Here are some pics to help anyone who is thinking of doing this.
1)Jack up and remove Tires.
2)Remove Two Lower Bolts with 12MM Wrench.
3)Remove Top 14MM Lock Nut and Retaining Nut.
4)Pull Shock out.
5)Put new shock in with new Isolator Rubber and Hardware.

changed all mine to the rancho rs9000xl adjustable series in april 2010.
they were a bit on the expensive side, but they sure do the job well.

that reminds me, i just got my $100 rancho rebate cheque in the mail yesterday!

just changed my front shock the other day.

the 2 originals i removed could be compressed by hand and would not return to extended length without me doing so. major change in body roll and braking characteristics.

Yeah me too!!I could push the piston in and it would not return on both sides.Now it does not feel like when I go over a large speed bump my bushbar will scrape the pavement.
I have an Extra pair of Brand new Front shocks if anyone is interested.
$125.00.
They come with all the hardware and Rubber Isolators.

I was just wondering if you can tell if the shocks are working without pulling them off first? If I am at a stop and let off the brakes then pump them I can get my Deli rocking. Not sure if this is normal or maybe my front shocks are not working properly.

Check first for leaking oil in/on/around shocks. If all this looks good and clean use a "bounce test". Grab the wheel well and get the front end bouncing, then release. If shocks are OK then your van should settle after 2 bounces, any more and you're just riding on springs.

Its a hillbilly method, but then again I am a hillbilly!

Sorry for the necro, but, I've just done all 4 shocks on the bus, replaced with what are current OEM fitment, coincidence as it happens, they were cheapest on ebay at £20 a corner. They are oil shocks, not gas, even new they will not extend by themselves, so this is not a test of the condition of the shock except for replacement gas shocks I guess. What's interesting is that they had had it, you could tell by the way the van bounced, but in the hand they still 'worked' just a lot less than the new ones. Oh and the bushes in the eyelets in the front had had it.

I've actually wound my torsion bars back down to see how it behaves, I'd wound them up before, because the ride sucked, rather obvious now but it was the shocks at fault, wound up messed with the tracking if i loaded the rear up, which was the clue, it never used to, so it wasnt because the torsion bars had sagged that the front tended to wallow, so it will be interesting to see how it rides back at standard height with proper shocks.
