Demo in Quebec City
Posted: Mon Aug 30, 2010 8:02 pm
Well Dom has a demo planned for Labour Day in Quebec City before the national parliament (the Quebec one, that is). Hope some of the Quebec wheelers can join him and others there to show our support. Dom also has set-up an official foundation with web sites in French and in English. Links are in his post.
Below is Dom's post on IVOAC and the link to that post.

A demonstration in Quebec city.
A demonstration will be held on labor day monday September 6th 2010, beginning at noon, in Quebec city, on Honoré-Mercier avenue, in front of the provincial parliament to show our disagreement with the governments decision to ban any new registration of right hand drive (RHD) vehicles since april 29th, 2009.
As you most certainly know by now, this ban is based on a biased study and on a gathering of misleading statistics that don't even take into account the most crucial fact that is: Were the accidents involving RHD vehicles indeed caused by the fact that one of the vehicles had it's steering wheel on the right hand side?!
Plus, those stats are unrepresentative of the reality as they only take into account a small number of drivers that's, young men driving sports cars. In the real world, you know for a fact that, if insurance companies thought RHD vehicles presented a higher risk of accident, they would charge significantly higher fees to cover them when in fact, they don't. Plus, could somebody explain to me why driving a RHD vehicle would be more dangerous here in Quebec when they are accepted throughout the world be it in France or the U.S.??
Present owners of RHD vehicles may be under the impression they are not affected by this ban as they enjoy the privilege to re-register their vehicle but they should realize this RHD car or truck WILL BE THEIR LAST ONE and that if, by chance it happens to be totaled or stolen, it will be impossible to replace it with a similar one. Plus, banning RHD vehicles gives to the public the wrong impression they are dangerous and that, in turns, lowers their resale value significantly.
So, on September 6th, 2010 at noon, come join us and demonstrate to keep your right to choose the vehicle you want.
One thing's for sure, for once someone organizes something to fight for my rights, I'll be sure not to miss it!!
See you there!
