delica vibration issue

Post by kiwi daz »

hi all

just bought a delica van, has a lovely vibration which starts around 80km/h and gets unbearable after 95km/h. I have 3 things which I think it may be

balance shaft belt
driveline, driveshaft out of balance?
wheels tyres-has got 235 tyres on rims and I noted that factory are 215's? rims could be bent?

any thoughts?

cheers

Start with your tires and rims

Have them balanced

If that doesn't work, then check your driveshaft ujoints

it isnt coming through the steering wheel - its through the floor under your feet. So i doubt its the rims etc, well on front wheels anyway.

Did you change tire recently or off road?

Off road it is easy to knock of wheel weights or more likely you pack a little mud in 1 spot on 1 rim. (also make sure to wash wheels before buying tires most tire shops balance them up all muddy--bad idea)

Next

Check the u-joints on the back (Foward to reverse the sometimes clunk) get under there and give the shaft a shake?

You didn't specify whether you have an L300 or an L400. Makes a difference.

If it's an L300, you will feel vibrations through unbalanced tires and worn driveline ujoints through the floor. Not always at the steering wheel.

Also can be your transmission mounts.

The driveshafts are so short on the L300's that a vibration can come from anywhere. Put it up on a hoist and feel/look at those points.

What about the tranny (or engine) mounts?

By the way, what are you driving and where are you located, roughly?

We have at least two other members in NZ, one in Auckland, one in Taranaki. You know, if you guys start getting together and get more of you ~ we can make a NZ events page so you can plan meets.
