L400 vs. L300 Major differences...what are they?

Hi everyone in Delica land,
I am looking to buy a Delica , whether it is an L300 or L400 I'm not sure.
I test drove a L300 and the "ride" - that is the suspension was a little stiff- and that's understandable because you are sitting on the front wheels.Does a L400 ride smoother?
Besides obvious differences in engine location and body styles what other pros or cons are there to the two styles?
It is just a guess , but is it easier to do engine work on the L300 due to the engine being inside the van - as opposed to the L400 where the engine is crammed in the front?
Any different weak spots to L300 - L400?
Thanks for your replies
