hello,

so.... i took my delica through manning park today and found that it had a tendency to run hot going up prolonged grades of 7 degrees or more. is this normal for delicas? has anyone else experienced this? any input would be appreciated.

Also do you have a new water pump and thermostat? My running temperature increased with new thermostats, but no longer spiked on mountain highways; stays steady at the half way mark.

the heat gauge was up at about the 3/4 mark and the coolant began over flowing

Definite problem, would say it needs servicing. Good Luck!

In this weather I had mine climb up to the 3/4 range on a few climbs through Rogers Pass, but it came back down as the climbs stopped. I have also have random coolant overflows with a lot of town driving and on the highway. Checking the coolant levels after, everything seemed within the expected levels, so no problems. Your coolant may have been overfilled and spilled over when it got hot, but make sure it is clean, maybe get a cooling system flush as well.

yah, i think the good doc's diagnosis might be on target. there might be some sludge in there as well as it being over filled. i thought that this stage of my motor vehicle experience was over; i have to say that it's well worth it with the delica though. thanks for your input all.

just did the trip to Vancouver and back to Calgary, on the way out there the Delica was pretty heavily loaded (helping move the ex gf...) and although I struggled to maintain 60km/h up some of the steepest sections, I never got the temperature gauge much over half despite the very warm weather (though it might have been higher had I been using the AC... but no point being that it doesn't work right now...)

now I also have a new radiator (about 5000km ago) so that may have an effect on it all... I'd say your radiator may not be as healthy as it could be...
