Anyone heard how Josh's conversion went ?

I'm waiting anxiously for the results and pictures. I have the same Plant Drive kit he used and am trying to do the install myself, well whatever I can figure out that is. Considering the totality of my automotive experience is changing the oil on my '89 pontiac wagon I need all the help I can get.

Josh's conversion worked great, and the relief on Rose's face when that van fired up Sunday evening was a sight to see. As it seems so common with WVO installs; most time spent head scratching and determining where to stuff gear in that crowded engine bay, and fabing mounting brackets - always requiring more time then you would guess. Thankfully we had James while equipped shop and handy scrap piles - can't remember what he called them? We were all focused on the van and didn't take many pictures, we did joke about having one picture of Josh's van, posting it twice with the headings before and after. Josh did take a couple if pics of the brackets and assemblies before it all was bolted and hidden away. It was great to see Asoreson's WVO install too; best Delica WVO tank ever!

Josh also said he wasn't mechanical, but after seeing him work on his van - heck I'd let him work on my vehicle's.

So who'll be next for WVO?

I just got back.... I'll see what kinds of pics I can drag up... I am on my way out right now, but I wil be sure to post a few things soon. By the way, it runs great. Kev brought me a bit of WVO and I did get to drive a couple hundered kms on it so far. It is the best thing ever. I could have never got it all done without James and Kev.

Oh and we all did a great tailgate mod that Andy showed us. It takes about 5 minutes and gives about 4" of extra lift. Its perfect for making it so you dont clunk your head, heck, i am 6'4" and I can clear it now.

Welcome back Josh, how was the trip?

Kev, the trip was fantastic. We ended up canoing Bowron in 4 days... the mosquitoes got quite brutal on the last leg of the journey so we busted it out rather than take another few days. Then we went and hit up Barkerville. It is a cool place if you haven't been. I grew up on an 1850's heritage farm in Ontario, so spending a full on day at an 1860's goldrush town was a blast. I should post a few pics soon, perhaps I'll do that when I get up the WVO conversion pics.

How was the rest of your trip Kev?

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one battling squitos! We went straight to the Bella Coola valley after leaving James, wanted to do many a stop on the Hwy 20 plateau but the bugs were brutal. Also cancelled our plans to run up to Prince George and the road to Rupert and came home Friday. We'll let the bugs die down at bit then plan our next road trip. Was thinking that my son would enjoy Bakerville, thanks! We did have relatively bug free camping in the valley and at a lake near 100 Mile. Let's stick some pics in the Caribou meet folder. We had a awesome trip - everywhere. My son really enjoyed it at James; swimming with the ladies and doing what ever he wanted.

Just dieing to process some WVO now aren't you.............................

Yes that hatch mod is great, had the two vans back to back with the hatchs open - my low roof (with a ladder) opens 5 inches higher then our high roof!

I posted a few pics under the Cariboo Fest... (Still none of the install, i think James snapped a couple last minute ones!)

Hey Josh,

I'm looking at doing my install in the next few weekends. I got the kit and I'm trying to fit the fuel tank, but it looks like I might have to re-route my exhaust 1st or get a smaller tank. What I'm really interested in is where you ended up placing the components like the VegMax and what brackets you had to fabricate. I'm pretty comfortable with taking stuff apart and putting it back together, but actually fabricating pieces and any sort of welding are out of my league skill and equipment wise. I might be able to recruit some neighbourhood help for the stuff I can't do on my own, but I'd like to know how it was done successfully already so that I have at least a starting point. Thanks for any advice you can offer,

I placed the VegMax right behind the wheel well on the left hand side of the vehicle (right beneath the battery compartment). From there I ran the fuel lines up through the battery compartment and over to the solenoids that i tucked in the left hand side of the engine compartment... there were a lot of hoses there in the end, and it was all a tight fit but it worked. I placed the veg therm above the engine right under where the seat would fold up. That way it was kept clear of everything (so I wouldnt melt any wires or what not) and yet still very close to the injection pump. Not sure if that all helps or not. You wont have to fabricate anything for the veg max, just drill two holes through the wheel well and bolt it directly to that, i just placed spacers on the bolts so that the vegmax was spaced out from the wheel well. My tank I have inside for now. My fuel/coolant lines run into the van through the wall behind the battery. That way everything should stay real cozy in the winter. Good luck. Just map it out and it should all be fine. I used about 20' of fuel line... and that was with having the tank right there... so bank on possibly needing more.

Thanks Josh. I appreciate the help. I was looking at installing the VegMax in the same spot, just wasn't sure out how easy it would be to change the filter. You have to mount it vertically with the filter on top, right?

Thinking lots about Josh Vegmax filters location, I thought that quick connects on the 4 hoses would allow for easier filter changes then removing the battery, and tray. Four of these would increase the install costs -http://www.swagelok.com/search/find_pro ... 012/type-1

Those look like a brilliant idea. Adam, presently the way I have it set up I have to remove the Battery and the Battery tray in order to do a filter change.

Perhaps I was being mocked Or would that be a term of endearment. lol Anyhow, can anyone warrant a guess as to who would be the trouble maker. And possibly I should take it as a hint that my signature might be getting a tad unmanageable. What do people think. (or maybe I should add the line about Cariboo bugs to mine as well, also maybe multiple other layers of bugs for that matter.)

Adam, hopefully you can take some photos and if you need I set of hands, I would love to drive down from Courtenay and help you out. I will be doing mine in the next month. Same system as Josh and you.
I think I am going to try Industrial Paints & Plastics for a tank of high quaility petro material. Seems strange, using a petro product to hold something that will get me off petroleum, now that I think about it.
As for those quick connnects,I know how well they can work with fluids. Great idea Kev.
