The $45.00 Snorkel 1/2 done...

Just need to weld up a new input into the airbox, connect, and urethane the body/pipe hole.

(I may bend it to follow the body line a little more)

Interesting....again. Not the most beautiful set-up, but I guess it works.
One tip. There are usually drain slots on every good snorkel head to separate the water out. Otherwise you drive around and collect rain water non-stop. With this set-up I also would recommend to use a water resistant air-filter like the K&N.

I was thinking when I add the 3 inch pipe into the stock airbox box making it so the water could fall to the bottom there.

The last time I did this setup I put a screw in the top so I could put the snorkel head around backwards for rainy driving.

Maybe make a foam/oiled filter??? Or K&N.

I will update when I get around to fixing the airbox (few busy weekends coming up).

I could swap out the 4 inch to 3 inch 90 degree to a 4 inch to 4 inch 90 degree elbow and space it out so the 3 inch intake pipe sticks up so water can run outside?

That might work, but you loose probably quite a bit of valuable airflow. How about using 4" 90° elbow with a 4" to 3" reducer piece on the 3" pipe. Take the reducer and cut a few slots around with the table saw. Also it would be good to add some kind of mesh on the air entry.

Put a up-side-down flower pot (ala the Land Rover style) on it.

Or just do what many others have done on DIY snorkel's. Put on a Safari head. $40-70

It's the $40-70 problem...Think I have an idea, just need some time!

Changes:

-4 inch to 4 inch 90 elbow gives a little room around 3/4 of the 3 inch intake pipe sticking through the snorkel.

-added a water catch at the bottom to collect water before it enters airbox.

-small bend in pipe to follow body

-Really bad blue paint

Need to mod the airbox when out at the shop my welder is at.

for air flow...dead ends=turbulance, better off with the elbow.

And see how much water it collects. I think the new snorkel head will let most the water go out.

I will also get the wife to drive and see how much air I get with the 90 vs the potato gun setup where it will go into the box.

I think the PVC cleanout is a great idea but never thought about air turbulence, maybe if you turned the TY around it would make it a smoother transition reducing turbulence.

Wanted to make it so the water would fall to the trap. I will get the wife to drive and try 3 different ways and see how much flow I get.
