MPG....what is your average?

I hear the average fuel consumption (mpg) is anywhere from 28-40,
We are about to purchase a Delica and currently are using 23 mpg to run a our 370,000 Dodge Caravan, we are excited about the shift in fuel consumption and would love to hear how many MPG other Delica drivers are getting.

There may be a thread for this somewhere else on the forum i have not noticed yet, if so please show me the way....

peace to the Delica crew...

The mileage figures quoted are not very realistic unless you idle everywhere. Most of us average 23-25 mpg - but diesel is way cheaper (now) and WVO if you convert is free.

Normal average (l/km) running WVO can be compared to the liter of milk I drink in 3-4 days, I use less than that of diesel in the same time period. Though running up to the Caribou I had to purchase dino-diesel and averaged 20-22 mpg driving the highways at 110 km/h.

Cheers

BTW - that's great mileage on your Caravan. For a short time last year I used a 91 Dodge Caravan as a work van and was getting 18-15 mpg heavily loaded. I drove that van hard and it was overloaded, all the weight that I 'wanted' to put in the back lifted the front end up to a scary level.

In the Delica I get anywhere from 580-660km out of 60L of fuel...
which sounds amazing to me when I consider my work van which gets 400km out of 110L of fuel... (ok... there's lots of idling in there... but still!)

Mine is about 20 mpg on a good day... those tires and exhaust sure destroyed that milage... but I guess thats a good thing considering I have to figure out how to keep up with the 30+ gallons of WVO I get a week.

Does the 2.5" exhaust hurt your mpg? I thought it would improve it, less back-pressure.

It sure didn't help, but I cant honestly say if it hurt either. I did the mod at the same time as the tire upgrade. But I figure more air flow = more fuel consumption.

thing about the tires is, its not as bad as you think, because you are getting more distance out of each rotation. As in, since I noticed about a 10 percent increaase in my speed, i'd say if you regularly got 450 km/tank, and now get around 400, you're on par pretty much. Mine is a little worse, but its not as bad as it seems. Exhaust helped for me.

Adam, what did you end up doing for your exhaust? What size? where does it exit? how does it sound?... so on...

popped a 2.5 inch piece of steel onto the existing 2 inch pipe right about the middle of the van. As soon as the pipe went horizontal it got cut and the 2.5 was slapped on, bent out to side exit... Sounds like a straight pipe on a turbo ha. Its loud, mean, and when thte turbo is really spinning it sounds like an old war plane.

cost me $150 because all it was was a piece of pipe bent once. Nothing special. sounds better, better flow, and out of the way of my eventual veggie tank.
