Heading off to Princeton Friday afterwork and you know, I have never had my van in four-wheel=drive since I bought it. As a matter of fact, I never even checked to make sure it worked before I bought it!! Anyhow, I'll find a parch of dirt before I go and make sure I don't here any bad sounds are anything like. So, do I have to reverse to lock and unlock the hubs?

One other little tip... once you have the hubs locked, you can shift in and out of 4wd on the fly BUT... you must stay aware of the fact that if you are in 2wd and reverse, your hubs WILL unlock. I usually perform turn-arounds in 4wd so I am confident my hubs are still locked when I require 4wd again. DON'T do that on pavement or hard surfaces with lots of traction though - bad!
Also, as mentioned, the first time you shift into 4wd, you need to stop and put the van in neutral or park PRIOR to shifting into 4wd. Once locked, you can shift between 4H and 2H on the fly but you must ALWAYS stop when shifting to or from 4L as there is a significant gearing difference between high and low.

Have fun with it and be careful! Don't push the limits if you don't have a support vehicle with you.

Thanks for the tips, fellas. I'll be sure to try it out before I get out onto the back-roads. It'll be a nice gentle drive through the mountains looking for game, so nothing to crazy. I'll be sure to take some pics of her first off-road journey.

I left for Princeton friday evening after a long day at work. My cell phone was dead, but I had food, warm clothes and enough to keep my alive and safe if something bad where to happen. But nothing bad happened. It was a nice, slow, drive through the crows nest. The stars where like old friends, shining bright.
I must have been passed by at least a half dozen long-haul truck that evening.
This was my first long drive with my new van, and I have to say that I was a little bit surprised at just how slow the van is through the mountains. That being said, I don't mind, I knew that I would not be breaking any land-speed records with my yet-to-be named L300. But I took a few snaps, and then the battery on my camera died. I was kicking myself for not bringing the SLR. Anyhow, have a preak!

can't quite tell what kind of rifle you have there it's tucked neatly behind your fog lights....

It is cheatin' a bit, for a 30-30. You're right. But it had a scope when I got it and when you have it on already, well, it seems silly to take it off. But I need all the help I can get; skunked again this year!

My friend's was a 44, lot's of fun.

you only use that many lights off road I assume?

Turns night into day. Very bright lights. But one of the spots has burned out. haven't got around to fixin' it yet. The LED's are always on. I use the spots if I'm in the mountains on a starless night and nobody coming my way.
