Hope this does not sound like a dumb question....
How can I tell if my 93 has a 6.2 or 12v glow system?
I get 10 volts to the bus bar..I am assuming it might be a 12v..
History:
I Removed my old plugs at lunch break which are stamped 6.2 on one side of the body nut and 12 on the other.
So I installed brand new 6.2V plugs assuming they would work...but when I turn the key I get nothing..I then proceded to install the originals and 2 clicks start!
I Re did everything to confirm it wasnt a ground issue.
Is this a 12 volt glow system that does not work with 6.2 plugs?
Thanks in advance!!

This morning,I took a look at the wiring Diagrams and it looks like there are two systems..A super quick glow start system and a regular. The super quick system appears to have two relays and the Regular System has one.
Delicasaurus has Two!
So I have the super quick system.
Is the super quick system the 12V System?
The Shop Mannual only has tests for the "self Regulating" single relay system.
Thanks for your help!!

Are your old plugs Mitsu or an aftermarket brand? If aftermarket then what brand are they (and what part number, if it's stamped on them)? Also, what year is your L300?
To possibly address a little bit of white smoke at cold startup on cooler days (almost nil smoke on warm summer days tho) I found some supposedly compatible aftermarket glow plugs (part no. CP-06, brand HT I think) for the Super Quick Type glow system on my '92. They were stamped with 6.2v and the box they came in was stamped with the OEM part number MD092392 they're supposedly compatible with. Think I got the same result as you - no click/no glow. The ones I was replacing were the green-tops from Mitsu, also stamped with 6.2v (don't recall if they're also stamped with 12v). Anyway, when I compared the resistance between the Mitsu and the aftermarkets there was a difference - albeit small (Mitsu had lower resistance). Much searching and reading on the MDOCUK site suggests this is "normal" - in that many aftermarket GPs that are supposedly compatible with the SQT dual-voltage just don't work, and it's due to the slight differences in resistance. I ended up buying a set from their club that they say are the only non-Mitsu brand they've found that work. I haven't tried them out yet. In the interim I've had my ECU/ECM reconditioned (the Rubycon capacitors had started leaking) and DIY cleaned my injectors. One or both of these lessened the start-up smoking (likely the injector cleaning). I want to next again try the (extreeemely cheap - don't ask

) HT aftermarket GPs that didn't work before to see if the ECM reconditioning made a difference in that regard...and, if not, then I'll try the ones I bought from MDOCUK. The white smoke seems to puff briefly immediately after the engine misses a beat intermittently when 1st idling cold just after startup, so I'm thinking there's 1 or 2 GPs that aren't getting quite as hot as they need to.

Thank you very much for the Info!
My Deli is a 93.
The plugs were HKT CP- 06!!
The old plugs that worked Perfect were Mitsu Originals.
I have now installed a different brand platnium tipped 6.2 and Voila!!!
So It appears I do have a 6.2 system!
I am going to try fitting a resistor to the CP-06 plugs for a last ditch effort. If it does not work then I would have to say HKT CP-06 Plugs do not work in a Delica!
Thanks again for your Help!!

Ok,So I have exausted my Patience on this.It seems as though the CP-06 Plugs will not work in a 6.2 Volt Super Quick System!!
The Manufactuers web site states they do!!
I am wondering if they only work in the Single Relay self regulating system.
I have now installed Platnium tipped CCP-06 Plugs Manufactured by Circuit and they work great!!
It really strange as the resistance values are so close!!
Cheers!

ok how can i find out what plugs i need for my deli?
do i have to remove my plugs to find out? or are the double relays easily seen under the hood?
you've got me curious now...

Hi Al,
Most likely you have a 6.2 volt system,The relays are located in the air cleaner bay behind Captins seat, there is a access panel there, they are on the aft wall of the bay,you might have to remove the short plastic intake pipe off of the assy to get a good look at it.check the top of a glow plug, while your removing it check the resitance value to see if you even need new ones, and check the phycical condition. It should be stamped with the correct voltage of your glow system.
Cheers!
