Please upload your photos straight to the forum...

...and don't use any direct links from outside sources.
It seems like people use more and more the embedding function or external linking of flickr, Picasa, ImageShack, Photobucket etc. to show photos in their posts. Please don't do it and take the effort to upload the photo straight to delica.ca
There are several reasons for that:
- If you search for older but still valid posts quite often the photos/diagrams/drawings are missing. Some posts don't even make sense anymore without the right photos.
It seems the user moved on to a different photo hosting service, didn't pay the yearly fee or deleted the photo all together.
- Sometimes the speed of delica.ca goes down, because there are some loading issues with the external source. Either the servers is down or has some other technical issues.
- At some photo hosts (i.e flickr) it's actually against their policy to direct link to a photo file
So please upload photos directly to the forum and make your images available for everyone even if you moved on or forgot to pay your subscription fee.
Thanks!

1) download photo from external source (with permission if needed)
2) upload photo to delica.ca
3) sip coffee
4) Felix loves you now.

I went to the Delica FAQ section because I remembered a title on Uploading your own photos, after scanning it quickly it seems to be about linking to a photo host which I believe we are being asked not to do?
A quick search also revealed this
http://www.delica.ca/forum/adding-photo ... ing+photos
Here is how it has worked for me. Please feel free to add corrections if needed.
Step one for me is to re-size my photo so it fits on the page of the Delica website. The general size is just less than 1000 pixels by a 1000 pixels. I also noted in my search that a photo should be a max of 750 k and a max of seven photos per post.
Note: If you right click on a photo you can find its dimensions. For example if you click on this link
http://www.delica.ca/forum/victoria-day ... -8172.html and right click on the first photo an inset box will appear, at the bottom you should see the words View Image Info, when you click on that another window will appear. In that window you should be able to find "Dimensions 1,000px × 750px" If you click on this link
http://www.delica.ca/forum/short-trip-t ... -9334.html you can see that I was lazy and did not make the photo small enough so it is bigger than the page. This can be annoying if it is really large or if someone is trying to look at your picture with slow internet speed.
To re-size a photo you need a photo program such as Photo Shop or something similar. I happen to use Gimp. Basically I load the photo I want into Gimp and then do all of my changes such as cropping, adding Chewbacca, or changing the size. After that I save it, I usually keep the same name and keep it in the same file but add "forweb" so I can find it again and I know which photo I am looking for.
Step Two: When placing a post scroll down the page just under the Preview, Submit, Save, Cancel buttons and you will see the Title Upload Attachment
Under that is a box with a button on the right that says "Browse.." Click on this and then when the window pops up look for your picture that you have saved for the Delica Website, click once or highlight your amazing photo and then click the open button at the bottom of the page.
Before pressing the Submit button click the preview button and it should show your photo. Hope this helps.
Cheers MBryant

Many forums prefer external links since image hosting can greatly increase bandwidth usage. No bandwidth limits/issue's here on Delica.ca?

Many more system administrators dislike having their images linked externally, as this increases their traffic usage (not bandwidth).

Looking in the UCP it looks like there is no total attachments size limit on Delica.ca. I guess Delica.ca has plenty of storage and traffic usage to spare which is a good thing. I usually uploaded pics to my own server first if possible thinking it was preferred...one less step now.
Most other forums I am on there is an upload limit and you have to eventually delete older uploads to make room for newer uploads effectively ruining your old picture dependant post...which is exactly what fexlboi is trying to prevent. Thats why I was asking what the mods here wished regarding image hosting.

There may not be a policy but I can assert that there is a logical upload limit imposed by the site, as I've had to resize my files to accomodate it.
I believe that the cap is 1MB.

Makes sence on the 1MB limit/attachment, images above that tend to be mighty large. I was talking total upload size limit though, not a per item size limit (ie the sum of your uploaded attachments per user account can = 10MB/100MB/Unlimited). There is nothing in the Delica.ca UCP that shows a limit and where you stand with your account that I could find so I assume uploads are unlimited. If so...cool.

Max 1MB per attachment, Max 6 attachments = max 6MB attachments per post.
I have never seen a facility in one of these forum apps that puts limits on the size of posts per user. Usually those limits (called quotas in IT parlance) are forum-specific, site-wide. You might find user quotas in a particular module, like a photo album. Another common flag is to disallow uploads completely for a user class.

I was talking about total uploads...not per item or per post. Like I said it doesn't look like Delica.ca has any limits that I could see poking around...so great. Just curious. A mod could verify.

Yotatech.com for example. All your attachments over all your posts are tracked and summed which you can view under a 'Miscellaneous' tab. You have a finite limit. Reach that limit = no more uploads ஃ must delete old attachments to make room ஃ old post that used that image is ruined.

All of the above is why I stopped posting images in the forum and started directing people to my blog - seemed a tidier way of doing it.

Caveate: Linking images on your own web server seems reasonable to me.
