L400 hesitation/vibration

Hi Folks,

Anyone experience this description? Seems to happen between 40-60km and it also happens uphill; thought it may be fuel filter, but that is new.
Possible transmission? Any ideas would be appreciated. My ignorance here, but an oil catch can would not cause this? If say, it had never been emptied?
I only ask as oil appears to be coming down the side of the can from where the two hoses clamp to the male ends. Could be clamps that need tightening or maybe full?

Cheers,

Joe

Check to see if the fuel filter is on tight and the drain plug on the bottom is as well. Could be sucking in air.
Have your injectors checked for blockage/spray and re&re if needed.

Thanks Jesse and all,

Apparently this was done, replaced and rechecked. Was told that this is the transition between
gears, possibly 2nd to 3rd, when the transmission wants to go into 3rd, but the RPM's and speed
aren't at the right point to shift from 2nd. This may make sense, but doesn't feel right.

I took (2) other L400's for a drive this past weekend to see if the van's have the same "gremlin"
as mine and neither had this type of vibration/hesitation.
On mine, it appears to happen between 40-60kph, mostly under load. But I notice it the
most when driving down the causeway through Stanley Park when going into Vancouver
and the van is rolling at the above speed without the foot on the gas or when I go to accelerate
just at the bottom of a hill.

My heightened concern is that if it is the transmission, I want it rectified while still under warranty,
and before I go beyond the mileage for the warranty.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Joe

Hey JoeDelica,
Just wondering what ever came of the issue you were talking about in the this thread?

I just got an L400 about 6 weeks ago and it seems to be having the same problem you describe.
Basically, at the shift points 40-50 & 70-80 km/h the transmission often seems to "jerk" or "'shake". It does not do this all the time but
typically a few times over a 30 minute drive.

All fluids and filters were changed before I picked up the vehicle. As a test, I just changed the transmission fluid again; the problem happened again this morning on the way into work.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dale

I too had experienced this alot and this is what I found. First I thought it was the TPS, so I replaced it but it still went out of whack and caused wierd hesitation. I also had the injectors cleaned- still had the hesitation. Then I had the fuel pump adjusted and the kickdown cable adjusted and so far it has been great. Seemed to eliminate that sputtering hesitation at certain shift points. I think the kickdown and having the TPS at 0.78 is the key to that hesitation.

I'm still chasing mine. I've done the kickdown, but not the tps. One thing to try: flip the trans switch to Power and see if that makes a difference.

Shortly after buying (within 6 months) I had diesel leaking out of my IP onto my driveway so I drove it back to Mardy and he fixed it. Any TPS work I have done myself, and the most recent tuning and kickdown adjustment was done at Coombs. I wish Coombs was closer.

I probably should have mentioned that I have a 1997 series 2. Searching around a bit, it sounds like this model uses a TPS sensor attached to the accelerator pedal which then connects to the ECU and adjusting it may not be possible or even have any relation. Not sure about the kickdown cable.

I am going to have to make a trip to Vancouver and drop it off for Mardy to figure out. Thanks for the help.
