All I can say is I want one, and why isn't this standard practice world wide?

It's not an old idea to most chemists, it's just that a large amount of energy is needed to create a smaller amount of energy, or in this case oil. But if your power, electricity, is generated completely sustainable than I'd want one! Well if the power gride I lived in was renewable; hydroelectricity, geothermal, solar, tidal and wave, wind, and bio gas (anaerobic digestion - which is growing here), then maybe it would be feasible even though electricity cost wouldn't make it cost effective.

I live in a city where over 80% to 90% is generated by coal burning, this would be a wasteful little device here and now.

Hmmm, Solar powered and mounted in the back of a Delica - imagine a road trip where you only run on what you produce from junk plastic. Cool
