Drivers Side Front Brake Siezed?

I just took my L400 out for a short jaunt here in Washington, and when I got back I smelled asbestos.

I realized it was my drivers side front brake, as I held my hand near my wheel, I could feel the heat coming off of it and smell the brake overheading. When I checked the passenger side front wheel, it was cold.

What would cause my brake to sieze in this manner?

check these :

The brakes on the L300/L400/Pajero/Montero's all have the same ill fate waiting for them. Seized callipers. Can happen anytime, even on new one's. It's just a matter of time. Lots of vehicles have the same caliper/bracket design.

Water gets into the little rubber boot and rust forms inside the brake calliper bracket and/or on the slider pin.

That is almost certanly the issue I have, do you know the part number for the slider pins? I assume I have to get new pins, and my guess is that I won't be able to get them done at a brake shop here in the States.

You're in the best place to get them done.

L400 brake parts = US Mitsu Montero brake parts for the exception of the front rotors, everything else/lines/pads/rear rotors/calipers are all the same.

1994 Mitsubishi Montero RS Model with 3.0L V6

You tell them this and you can the identical brakes parts on your L400.

Personally, I would just replace the caliper bracket that should come with the pins if your calipers are in good working order.

It's cheap down there. Should be less than $30-40 per side.

Or to be safe, you can just go to any NAPA and pay $50 for the whole thing. New Caliper, bracket, sliders, hardware. Montero parts are cheap in the US.

Good to hear.

I put fresh new calipers into the last L400 (sexy black lifted one) and a few weeks later one of them started leaking and needed to be replaced. Just goes to show that even new parts may need attention. :M

Not the first time I heard that. RichD's brand new caliper started leaking after a few month too. Guess the quality of this seals are not very good.

ahh, sounds like the one bad knock on this rig! it would make sense to have a box of calipers handy in the rig, especially if you're going far... great to know about the parts being the same on a US montero!
cheers.
