Re: Newbie checking in with 88 2WD USA Van Wagon

Thanks for the offer. The drip is so slow that the appeal of filling it and running across town with a chase vehicle is there. The alternative is retrieving my trailer, pulling a truck out of storage, etc. So question is out there, but do you know if I can use a common trans oil like Dex II? Whateve...

Big Bird, Thanks - appreciate the reply. The pan has a leak as it appears to have scraped a curb or road debris. Yesterday I drove over and lay in the mud on some plastic sheeting. It appears the leak is slow enough I could refill it and get home. Takes a drop about a minute to form. That means I wi...

Re: Pulling the oil pan on a 1988 Van Wagon USA gas - need h

And, incredibly I did not specify that this is the TRANSMISSION oil pan. Sorry.

I've been through a lot of threads in the last few days but not seeing what I need to know. I can always drive out to the vehicle with a larger number of tools and likely handle it, but was hoping for some guidance...

Re: Pulling the oil pan on a 1988 Van Wagon USA gas - need h

Anybody? My biggest concern is the trans dipstick. Some are attached to the oil pan and mean I have to work up in the engine area as well as under the van, etc. And of course there are lots of other potential things in the way - nothing is as easy as you'd think. So 25 people have read this and not ...

Pulling the oil pan on a 1988 Van Wagon USA gas - need help

So my second post is going to be a plea for help. I need to know what tools I need to pull the oil pan. It is a ways from home and I only glanced at it. So is there a cross member blocking access, or is it as easy as a dozen or so bolts? I will be doing this in a muddy field and up here we are in th...

Newbie checking in with 88 2WD USA Van Wagon

Just thought I'd check in and say hello here on the Technical board as that's where I'll likely spend the most time. I have not even picked up the vehicle yet. It has a hole in the trans pan and the sellor says it can make it cross town to my home but I am thinking of pulling the pan and having it w...

Re: A 1989 Vanwagon for your amusement

Nice thread. I'm new to the forum tonight. Just bought a 1987/1988 Van Wagon and am looking forward to getting my hands on it to start poking around and see what needs attention. This thread was a great way to see in advance a few things I may be attending to.

Rgds
