Re: IP work. now won't run

I see what you mean now. Unfortunately I've never removed the throttle shaft on these pumps and don't know how to put it back to origin. What's more unfortunate is that there is not service literature available to the common Joe like you and I. I'm attaching a photo of how the throttle is supposed t...

Re: 4M40 performance modification

Just thought I'd post up some photos of people's 4M40s in Thailand. They are all in Mitsubishi Stradas, but the engines are all the same as our JDM Delicas and Pajeros with the manual/mechanical IPs. They're mostly set up for drag racing, but in milder configuration these should yeild good power fig...

Re: IP work. now won't run

Are you 100% sure that you timed the fuel pump gear exactly how it was prior? Reading your description it might be a tooth retarded. When you do get it to run, is there a tonne of white/light blue smoke? I'm also not exactly sure about what you mean when you say you took the top of the pump apart. A...

Re: IP work. now won't run

You need to give more info on how it's running. Describe what kind of smoke, or no smoke, lumpy or smooth etc. If you can make a video. The throttle cable should be adjusted so that your throttle lever rests on the idle stop when the throttle pedal is at rest. Then when the pedal is floored, you wan...

Re: Urgent fuel consumption help! - EDIT: Problem solved!

In my experience the seizing caliper pistons happen because we buy vehicles that were not driven in Japan for a long time. Sometimes they sit for a year or two without a drive. So the piston just sits in one place and corrodes. So when I rebuilt my calipers all the pistons had corrosion/gunk built u...

Re: What injection timing are you running?

Wast able to make the tech session, but if there is another one I would love to take part. Please let me know. Instead I spent the time tuning in the garage. I couldn't drive with the stock timing, it was much too retarded to get good power/consumption. As I mentioned before I set the timing to the ...

Re: curious

Bush mechanics can get you out of sticky situations. Creative problem solving is the best tool. However a good kit with the basic hand tools necessary for dissembling and assembling your car is important: -a few spanners -a few sockets and driver -screw drivers -pliers -hammer -air pump And also a k...

Re: What injection timing are you running?

Activating this solenoid also helps a lot at cold start and running. Advanced timing via internal pressure. I was also debating to braze the second relief hole shut on the solenoid, thereby always keeping it in closed position. Here is a photo of ze valve in question (green cap): http://www.biopower...

Re: What injection timing are you running?

Going to advance the timing a degree this weekend. With the stock timing the cold starts have too cold a combustion resulting in light blue smoke/fuel out the exhaust. There is a constant light blue haze at load from the exhaust. Going to advance timing in 1 degree increments until I'm happy with a ...

What injection timing are you running?

I know there are various factory specs for the 4M40 injection timing advance. For my Pajero the spec is 12deg ATDC with 1mm plunger lift. I believe that this is the spec for the mechanically injected 4M40 with EGR. Just curious what kinds of advance have you set and what results you've had. I just s...

Re: Start up knocking/tapping

Did you say you have issues with glow plugs? That will cause cold combustion, light coloured smoke and rough idle. The smoke is unburnt diesel, basically it's partially combusting. Check your plugs and make sure they are working correctly. At normal cold start they should be glowing for a few minute...

Yeah it's amazing how much detail there is in the work.
The physics in the driving videos are increadible, even the tires depress over rocks and suspension articulation and body roll. Droool!
Maybe it's because I know nothing about high quality RC cars...

Re: Replacing my Turbo.

I have rebuilt turbochargers with good results without balancing. The components that are balanced from factory are the turbine wheel and shaft assembly and the compressor wheel. When rebuilding you must inspect these components for wear/damage. If the turbo is not suffering from wheel strikes on th...

Re: LEGO Technic Expedition Van

Looks like a Pinzgauer or mabye a Volvo C303, just cut up. I wish that was life size! Kind of related, here is a video of an RC Bronco driving around in the forest. The guy makes the RC cars himself and the videos of them. The look almost real, or maybe dream like. I think he's from Ontario. TkMgWK3...
