Re: Front end grinding noise
I suppose the upside is that you dont have to worry about front wheel bearings for quite some time, but I am sorry your problem still persists. Im not sure if the velocity joints can such problems. Usually they do make a clack clack clack noise when they're going bad and very noticeable while turnin...

Re: Balance shaft.
Hi Tojo, Unfortunately the shops here don't have the bushing/spacer in stock and they dont seem to be expecting it too soon. Ok I understand now the purpose of the chamfered edge on the inside so I'm gonna attempt filing the straight edge and using it the opposite direction. I'll use a drillbit and ...

Re: New rocker arm + used head= sharp ridge?
I took your advice and used back the original caps. Cleaned them up pretty good, looks like new and I saw the numbers on them. Im gonna have a very early start tomorrow hoping to be on the road again by Monday. I have only one dissappointment. That upper balance shaft spacer I'm unable to get anywhe...

Re: Cracked block
Hey Joe, I agree with Big Bird. Thats a huge job and considering the amounr of time and effort that goes into this job, its best to get it done the proper way. All parts he mentioned would need the correct sizing and replacements to suit the new (used) block. If you just swap parts over into another...

Re: Stripped allen head bolt
Took apart my compressor to rebuild the head a few months ago. Alot of corrosion built up after it been down for a while. Never had time to get back on it.
Darn! Now I need it!
Talk about 'head' aches,huh!
I'll do my best to clean those threads.
Thanks GrowlerB

Re: 4D56 Timing. Some advice please.
Growler it is with great appreciation I thank you for the timing procedures. Very easy to follow. I been following Tojo's post and i gotta tell ya, his has been the most comprehensive diy timing with perfect pics that I've come across so far. But he hadnt gotten to the actual timing part yet when I ...

Thats it, camshaft bearing caps. Im not familiar with alot of part names as the only mechanical experience I get is only when working on my vehicle. Always nice to learn along the way. Im glad for that tip reusing the original caps though I didnt notice any markings on them. Matter of fact I scrappe...

Re: torsion bars
Hey B Reindexing can be done as many times as you need. It's easy to do. If the bars continue to sag they need replaced, that simple.... I've reindexed in all 3 of my delicas but in my present L400 series 2 Chamonix I installed new T bars. They continued to sag so I replaced them from http://www.do...

Balance shaft.
Hi guys. Just a few more days before I get my head rebuilt. Last year when I intalled a new seal on the upper balance shaft, I noticed I didnt get a very snug fit but I didnt think I would expect a leak anytime soon. Last night as I took a closer look at that same seal, I saw traces of oil around it...

New rocker arm + used head= sharp ridge?
Hi guys. Ok so no one has any advice on my timing procedure? Or maybe youre still drafting notes :-) Well my father-in-law has surprised me today with a full set of new valves, intake and exhaust. This morning before I left for work he offered to grind/reseat the old ones and replace the seals. I wa...

4D56 Timing. Some advice please.
Hey guys. So I have one week to assemble my 4D56 head with all the new parts I bought. Hopefully by Saturday I should begin reassembly to the block and have everything mounted by Sunday. Although I did the timing last year myself, I would appreciate if anyone can tell me : 1) Which sprocket do I set...

Re: L300 Head replacement and timing belt DIY, step by step
Hi Tojo. I was hoping to catch your reassembly and timing on this project, but it doesnt seem I will. Well, not when I need it most that is. I have to admit this is the best instruction diy project on this topic Ive seen. The photos are exceptional as well. The thing is, Tomorrow morning Im hoping t...

Re: Stripped allen head bolt (Removal a success)
Hey folks! Its been a long afternoon working on those bolt heads but after 3 and a half hours they were finally out. I soaked a few pieces of cloth in water and covered the areas over the head where welding was to be done. First attempt fitting an allen key (straight piece about 1" long) into t...

Re: Front end grinding noise
Good to know all these methods that work. As well as those that take less time than others. I was and will always be worried about breaking a race while tapping it in. I kept saying 'hub' in my post when its actually the rotors. The purpose of using the old race was because of the recessed area the ...

Wow I never heard of the freezer method but makes alotta sense! If my wife saw me putting mechanical parts in the freezer, man i'd be dodging the rolling pin and every other kitchen utensil she can get her hands on.
