Coolant Drop and Heavy Grinding
Welp. I wish that was the case. Unfortunately it's a big ol' hole in the side of the engine. I suppose I am to blame for this one. As an engineless Delica would probably fetch next to nothing in the US, I think I'm stuck with it. Mulling over my options here and even considering the HYundai swap, th...

Coolant Drop and Heavy Grinding
Posting from the side of the freeway while I await a tow! I was driving along the I5 southbound from SF to LA and shortly after I passed the spot where my very first van caught fire in 2013, my delica shuddered and started making a grinding sound. I immediately pulled over, smoking (white) to see a ...

Intermittent but persistent squeal. (Solved: AC Compressor)
Hi again! So I've acquired the compressor, but apparently need the dryer too. I can't seem to find any info on that as far as parts numbers or anything. Does anyone happen to know? Thanks!

Intermittent but persistent squeal.
Well that would explain why my AC quit this summer! Glad to know there's an easy temporary fix, as I'm in LA for a few weeks where you NEED a car. A car with AC would be nice, but I'll survive. Gonna cut that sucker off now and head to the beach! Thanks Growler for your indispensable knowledge and t...

Intermittent but persistent squeal.
Thanks! Funny you know about that on-ramp. It's the worst!! WELL, it happened again tonight and popped it open to inspect. You'll have to excuse my ignorance (i really am not mechanially inclined enough to own such a vehicle), but the pulley closest to the ground and the passenger side door was not ...

Intermittent but persistent squeal.
As usual, Thanks Growlerbearnz! As for the smoke - yes, from the engine bay as well as more than usual black smoke from the exhaust (it typically produces the occasional puff if I accelerate too fast). I haven't driven more than a half block like that bc the van just sounds so awful. This also bring...

Intermittent but persistent squeal. (Solved: AC Compressor)
This squealing issue seems to differ a bit from wha I read about loose/worn alternator belts, in that t only happens occasionally, on startup, and I can't seem to identify any condition that causes it. It's quite a loud squeal and it doesn't subside after the car is warm or starts driving. If I allo...

Searching Photos
Hi,
When attempting to view a member's photos by clicking the link in their profile, I am taken to front page of Photos, which does not seem to be searchable by user name. Am I missing something here?
Thanks!

Rough Idle / Difficult Cold Weather Starting
Thanks guys. Sylquebec, definitely wasn't THAT cold - about 28f/-2C. Spewed lots of black smoke in the process. Got quite a few dirty looks in the parking lot of a ski resort :-). It is my 1st diesel and I do realize that they are a different beast when starting cold (glad i hvae the 2 battery setup...

Rough Idle / Difficult Cold Weather Starting
On a recent trip to the snow, my L300 took quite a bit of coaxing to get running. It would turn over and sputter out almost immediately. The only way I wa sable to get it going, was to hold the gas down while continuing to turn the key, for about 5-10 seconds, spewing a bunch of smoke in the process...

Thanks ya'll. Haven't had time to do ANYTHING,but hopefully will tonight. However, there has been a new development and I'm assuming this is not how the van was designed - power windows and AC/Heat only work with headlights ON. That's not normal, right?

Thanks Growlerbearnz, you are always so helpful and patient with us noobs. I will check by the battery. I'm curious though, as to why a loose connection would cause certain accessories to lose power only when switching on the headlights and/or high beams. Does that make any sense?

If your high beams are your headlights, then what are your high beams?
