L400 with Manual Transmission
I recently sold my '89 L300 (GLX, low roof, 5MT). I ran across a newly imported L400 2.8 with a rare 5MT. I've very tempted by it. However, it looks like the 4M40 with the 5MT is a very, very rare bird. Apparently it uses the V5M31 (same as a Pajero) so it's not too oddball in that respect. I've onl...

Front end shocks bottoming out!?
I'm looking to replace my L300s shocks with some Ranchos, too. I was just wondering if there was any conclusion on whether the shocks you ordered were not fitting right. I thought perhaps first-generation Montero / Raider shocks might be the same, but looking at the stock numbers you posted (8.5&quo...

Brake Shoe Hardware
Just beware that once the shoe has the springs installed but no retaining pin, the springs will try to flip the shoe out of its slots. You'll probably have to hold the shoe in place lightly while you install the retaining pin. Some kind of clamp might help. Thanks for the tip. It happened when taki...

Brake Shoe Hardware
I usually install one brake shoe completely, then hold the second shoe roughly in place, install the lower spring and, using the shoe as a handle and for leverage, put the shoe's lower end into it's retaining slot. The top end of the shoe should still be free, so installing the top spring is easy, ...

Brake Shoe Hardware
I'm attempting to replace a brake shoe adjuster on my '89 L300 (mine sheared off). I found one for an '89 Montero, which isn't the same, but might work. Anyhow, I was attempting to put the shoes back together, and that upper spring is a real pain to get back on; I couldn't get it (and even bent it a...

Trailer hitch wanted
FWIW, I installed a Curt Hitch for a Montero, and it bolts right up to my '92 SWB Pajero.

Brake Drum Adjuster
Ouch! Definitely broken but the adjusters are available. Bit pricy but they are easy to find on Partsouq or Amayama. While you have the drums off you might wanna dismantle, brake clean and regrease the spots where the brake pads touch the backing plate. The whole dismantle can be done with needle n...

Brake Drum Adjuster
Decided to check out the rear drums before heading for Overland Expo in a couple of days (going from Oregon to Arizona). Parking brake has been loose since January. Looks like a broken adjuster; like part of it has been sheared off and it's just sort of dangling in there. Probably explains why my br...

Am I missing a part?
I suggest you look again @ North 54's picture # 4685. I think you are trying to put it way to far towards the rear. It goes on top not under! Good luck. You're right; it goes above there. However, I believe the tabs will still need to be bent and holes drilled in the lower plate in order for this t...

Am I missing a part?
In case anyone is following this, apparently I'm not missing a part. I was told I have to bend the end tabs (probably with a press brake or a vice and a mallet) and drill into the existing plate at the back to make provision for attaching this. (Wish I had known that before I had the part powdercoat...

Sticky Clutch Pedal
Hey, I just started having this problem, and then a little later I the clutch stopped fully disengaging. Like as in I could not get it back in neutral without turning off the key. Sooo I was hoping maybe you might have an update on your situation that could shed light on mine? I believe you can adj...

Am I missing a part?
I mocked up the plate last night. I am sure I could get it to bolt to the air guide up front. However, the bolt holes on the back do not line up like yours. I figured they must attach below the center skid plate, since the tabs are different. See photos below. 31890391_10157087673857289_254305883327...

Am I missing a part?
Very helpful! I'll take a look tonight if I can. So it mounts to the thin air guide plate ... there's not a whole lot of structure there, so I probably won't want to hit it on anything! Maybe at some point I'll have something sturdier to support it like a true "bash plate." But regardless,...

Yes, it's still off. Looking forward to your pics.north54 wrote:If you do have your air guide plate off leave it off for the moment. I recall I had to take mine off to put a bolt in one of the holes as the "receiver drier?" cylindrical thing hovers above the hole you need to put a bolt through.

The skid plate actually bolts to the air plate you have circled so leave it on. I'll snap some pics of my installed skid plate tonight. I think we have the same design. I would greatly appreciate that! So it actually bolts to the thin metal "air guide" (62817 circled in the diagram)? Inte...
