Re: brakes ... blah
OK changed the profile. I have to say im getting better prices at Napa (vs Lordco), and the parts arrive way quicker and the service is better... Just some FYI, at least for Campbell River. Rocky mountain had the front rotors and they arrived the next day(!) So the front brakes are all new now - Pad...

Re: questions re lift and tires
I second that - knowing how hard your engine is actually running is valuable info.almac wrote:the addition of a good pyrometer would also be a wise addition.

brakes ... blah
Well about 2 months ago my brakes started squeaking. Looked at the front pads; one pad is worn down (on an angle) to the metal tab that indicates the pad is worn out. Both pads had grooves worn into them on there edges also. The rotors are in bad shape, the edges built up with rust so that only the ...

Re: Pressure release noise, now white smoke
sounds like a seized turbo wastegate. the turbo opens a flap when it produces too much boost. if this flap seizes (happened to me) then there is a flap on the valve cover which opens, and sounds awful. there is a lever on the right , low side of the turbo (when facing the steering wheel) - you shoul...

Re: Stainless steel caliper pistons
Nah, not for $20 - but if they are stainless I could charge a premium.

Re: Stainless steel caliper pistons
Well stainless steel pistons are a product that does exist for other cars - so Im not too concerned with strange metallurgic reactions. Im thinking stainless 303 for its corrosion resistance but good machinability. Material costs for a full set (front and rear) would be about $50. Machining time wou...

Stainless steel caliper pistons
I had a front caliper piston seize on me recently - wrecked the break pad but the rotor is OK. I took the caliper apart this weekend and had a look at the piston. Its pitted and corroded around the rubber seal area. Considering the caliper body probably lasts forever (I wired brushed mine and it loo...

Re: Metal Jerry Cans
I have a 20L and a 5L of these jerry cans. They came with the trailer I bought. PO used them for carrying spare fuel for his generator. The rubber seals on the lid and the spout has now deteriorated and it leaks when transferring diesel to the van's fuel tank. Oil and rubber do not work too well ma...

Re: Metal Jerry Cans
Well there are still a few available. The rubber gaskets on the lids are thick and wide and do not react to diesel or gas. Like I said, I have one in the back of my van, full of diesel, sitting on its side and it doesnt create any smell in the van. All things being equal, I believe these cans would ...
