Looks like my L400 days are over (sniff sniff)

Post by DeliTan2 »

Hi folks;

My '94 Series 1 LWB L400 is done, due to the usual rusting of the rear suspension mounts. Too bad because it only has 166k kms on it and the 4M40 engine and auto transmission run great.
If I was younger and had a shop I could put it in, I'd part it out.
I have stuff I could take off of it, but I need it intact enough to drive it to its new owner, if there is one.
I have an E&H hitch (specifically for LWB), Thule roof rack (with locks and the long legs for high roof). It has a one year old windshield and all the rest of the glass is intact. All the seats are good but the driver's seat is worn (but intact).
Almost new exhaust system (both parts).
The body is pretty good but has a few rust spots (no holes).
2 sets of wheels (not steel). They need clean up, or bead blasting and paint. The 6 tires are all General Grabber AT2 or ATX.
2 brand new ATX (stickers still on), 2 almost new AT2, 2 AT2 @ 50% or so and 2 empty wheels.
I need to keep the batteries.
It still "feels" solid, so I wouldn't hesitate to drive it to the lower mainland (once purchased).

If it didn't have the rust problem, I would happily camp another 3 months on "my" Mexico beach...

It has been an awesome vehicle from the time Mardy imported it for me (at 51K kms).

Answers and pix on request.

Hi Mojo;

It's in south central BC. I cant imagine how those items would be shipped to Ontario, or what it would cost.
I'm not in a particular rush to make it undriveable (for short distances).

I will start with removing parts like the E&H hitch, roof rack, new and almost new tires. I have 2 sets of mag wheels, but I will need one set of cheapo wheels and 2 tires to keep it driveable. Headlights and other electrical bits are available. All seating except the driver's seat, interior trim etc.

Hopefully someone will have need for a low mileage 4M40 engine and transmission, and take it all away...

Email sent.

As you seem to be in the UK, it would be helpful if you state what side of the road your Delica will drive on. The right side as in North America or the left side as in the UK, Japan etc.

This will determine which headlights you need (without confusion).

Just wondering if you are going to completely strip this down and part it out? and do you ship? Just curious

Thanx for your interest.

I am waiting for a friend to come and assess repairing the rear suspension. I would dearly love to get my Deli back on the road. I've been told by others it's not possible/not economical.

Assuming he says "forget it", I'll be pulling parts and accessories to sell, but keep it in a state to be driven or hauled, and scrapped. The municipality would be upset if I was obviously dismantling it. No place to hide.

It's almost winter here, so whatever I do, it'll happen in the spring.

I will ship bits by Canada Post only...
