Sorry, did not know that you were no longer on the forums. Good to hear the tips can withstand extreme temperatures. Definately looks like an awesome kit you have put together.

I finally got around to installing the Auber pyro gauge kit that RichD was selling a while back. First of all, I have to say that Rich put together a great kit with everything you need. And I do mean everything, right down to the small tube needed to block off the vacuum line and a rubber grommet use to pass the sensor wires through the firewall!! Thank you Rich!
The install went well and would go a lot better the next time. Once you do it once, it would be easier the next time for sure. I found that removing the driver's seat was the best way for me to go but YMMV.
I have not had a lot of chance to test it out yet but around town, it seems to work just fine. I had no idea that the exhaust temp fluctuated so much and so quickly. The biggest thing I have noticed so far is that there is no longer the puff of black smoke on intial throttle opening. Is this normal when the EGR system is blocked off?

Anyway, thank you RichD and other members of the forum for your help and postings on how to install. Made it much easier.

Rod,

Let us know if you find it changes your driving style. It seems to me that everyone that installs a pyro finds their driving habits change. Mine didn't really, because mine was installed only a week or two after I got the Delica, so I didn't have time to get any habits.

Fred,
I'll post about the driving style but I don't think it will change much. We tend to drive the Delica pretty gently, gaining momentum rather than accelerating if you know what I mean. The biggest difference will probably come when driving into headwinds and up long hills. I think I will tend to back off a bit rather than try to maintain speed when I see what the pyro readings are. The van is in SK quite a bit so the headwind test is no problem but will probably have to wait a bit before I can test it on a hill :-D

So here's what I finally got mounted in my van. Auber Pyrometer with an Autometer EGT probe (installed in the exhaust manifold not the EGR blanking plate). Boost and Oil Pressure Gauges from Harbor Freight in the US. Bad sending unit on the Oil Pressure Gauge. Have to replace that to get it working. What do you expect for $25?
Thanks for the great work Laurentiu.

Did you just replace the stock oil pressure sender with aftermarket for the oil pressure guage? Wanting to put one in.

Also, anyone know how where would be the best/easiest place to tap into for trans. temp and coolant temp?

Thanks

Just mounted my RichD gauge...very happy with it. I can see it with my eyes on the road, the over max light hits you vision and you can here the click for over temp....

Love the gauge very simple, did egr blank kit....Interesting to see how little bit of throttle position changes temperatures!

Really like the gauge for having a warning light if hits a set max temp and you can wire an alarm in (thinking of wiring the over 80km/h alarm to over temp!).....

Cheers

Well, I can finally respond to my own post that I started some time ago. It took me long enough, but I now have a boost gauge and pyrometer installed in the Delica. Sorry about the crappy cell phone photos. I'll try and swap them out with photos taken with a real camera sometime.

What I did was pick up some Autometer Sport Comp II gauges and attach them to the steering column via the narrowest dual gauge pod I could find...the adjustable Perrin Performance one. One issue I ran into was that the gauges would reflect onto the windshield...doh! So, back onto eBay I went and found two gauge hoods. I was hoping for deeper gauge hoods, however I was able to get these ones to work by tilting the gauge pod towards the driver (3 spacers on the back bolt and no spacers on the front bolts). I'm quite pleased with the install. Because these pods are adjustable, I was able to get them to not block any of the instrument lights or gauges.

Nice knees.

Arron TM, I like your arrangement, right in the control zone. Are you thinking of putting some sort of housing around the rear parts of the gauges?

Falco.

Haha, thanks Falco. Unfortunately, that pod is in fact open at the back, as you noticed. I may add something to the back one day, but you don't see any wiring from the drivers position...so, I am in no rush.

It is a boost and vacuum gauge, similar to the one I put in my car several years ago. Unlike the gas powered car, the diesel never dips into the vacuum part of the gauge.

I recently installed a trio of Autometer gauges in my L400's center pod. Turned out better than expected, still need to install the pyro's sensor though.
