BFG MudTerrains Anyone?

I decided to pull out my measuring devices and figure out what kind of backspacing I could fit.

My current 6 inch wheels have 4.25" backspacing, meaning that from the part of the wheel that touchest the brake hub to the farthest point on the inside is 4.25 inches, and from where the wheel meets the brake hub to the outside it is 2.75 inches. This adds up to 7, but 1 inch is taken up by teh flanges on each side according to what i've read on the old internet.

Now, looking at my sliding door, There was about 2.5 inches between tire and door as things are right now. There's the rub.... literally.

The wheels I am looking at getting (if they are the ones that look identical that I have found on the internet, they have a backspacing of 3.75.

8 inch rim means 9 inches flange to flange, subtract 3.75, and you get 5.25 from brake hub to streetside flange.

Now, if you will direct your attention back to earlier in this post, current brake hub to outer flange is 2.75, now add the 2.5 inches that are spare right now between tire and door and you have 5.25, so in a perfect world, they fit, barely, at least with some lubing of the inside of my sliding door.

So here is the million dollar question, will 31 inch mud terrains go out past an 8 inch rim further than my 215s go past a 6 inch rim?

I don't want to go 7 inch, but if I must then I must.

I'll call NSOR and see if I can get a mud terrain fitted to one of those to test it out, I doubt it. I guess I could buy the tires, since I am oging to do that anyways and then take them to NSOR and play games with all that jazz. I wish it was simpler.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Or Bruce if you've been working on that cheap sliding door solution I am all ears. I want to go as wide as possible and still be able to get my door open.

I have fitted 245/75R16s BFG AT. They look fantastic and ride great too. No lift seems to be required.

Is that correct jclovin? 16's? Or are they 15's like everyone else seems to be running? 245/75/16's would be even bigger, and I am curious if they would fit.

Yep, 16' rims. They *are* considerably bigger than 15', and yes, they do fit, but require a bit of fender modification. Oh, and they look greeeat.

I think I may have to try to squeeze a pair on also in the spring. It'a a shame you won't be at the meet. Is it possible for you to post some pics of the wheels on your Delica?
