Parts Availability for 1989 L300 in Pacific Northwest, USA

Post by penr0295 »

I have a 1989 L300 that I got from my brother, who owned it in San Francisco. I am not sure how it entered the USA, but had assumed that it was brought in by a military service person who served in Asia. I have used the L300 for a couple years for my job doing construction, and like it a lot better than a pickup for most purposes. But it is getting kind of tired, and has an oil pan leak, and needs brake work and new tires. I recently have been thinking about getting a new Ford Transit Connect Wagon, but after riding around in a friend's, the L300 has renewed appeal to me for its reliability, interior space, and ability to carry full 4x8 foot sheets of drywall and plywood with the rear hatch still being able to close.

I am wondering what kind of difficulty I might experience getting work done on it, in terms of parts. Are there other Mitsubishi vehicle models in the USA that have the same engine and transmission as the L300, that might make it possible to at least get vital mechanical parts?

Thanks for any pointers.

I should have added that my L300 is not a diesel model, and has a gasoline engine, and is 2WD.

Are you sure it "entered" the USA. Vanwagons were made in the US and have gas engines with 2 wheel drive. You should be able to go to a Mitsubishi dealer and order anything you need (just tell them it's a Vanwagon instead of an L300). 8-)

Diesel or Gas

2wd or 4WD

if it is gas 2wd dealer should have everything you need...

Diesel can get motor parts from dealers on here no problem or this engine used in few US models and industrial applications

4wd most montaro parts fit. Few parts you cannot can be sent down from dealers on here..

1989 was the best year for the Delica L300 (OK maybe because I own one too)

Welcome

That is a Vanwagon. I have one of those vans!! Here is a pic of mine Image You can get parts for them just about anywhere in the states, AutoZone, Napa, Carquest, etc. I get mine mostly online from rockauto. Hope this helps.

Hey guys,

I am new around here, and also have a US spec 1990 L300 Vanwagon that I just bought from CA and had shipped to me in MA. I was wondering if anyone could help me located a front bumper that doesn't stick out so far like the US spec units. I see the Japanese imports don't have these bumpers, but rather a flush fit unit with brush bar looking extensions that are much better looking than the big bumpers like the ones posted on this thread which are the same as mine. Also my van is very similar to the silver one R. Costa posted up. It doesn't have the large moonroof like I see on most of these vans(especially the LS like mine). Do you guys think if I located a van with the moonroof that I could cut it out,and spice the roof panel into my van easy enough? I really wanted the moonroof, but these vans are rare enough to find period in the US let alone finding the eact one you want.

Oh yeah I forgot my van has some tracks inside above and below the rear windows that look like are for curtains. Is there a special curtain clip for these? If so where could one get them so curtains can be installed?

Hey Mazdax, If you want a moonroof you are better off getting a van with one or replacing the entire roof. I know a guy in Washington state that has a Vanwagon with a moonroof and he hates it. I don't think I would want one either. As for the bumper, I have looked under my van and I have seen how the Delica bumper mounts and they appear to be a bit different. As for a 2wd L300 or an Express, I am unsure if it will work. I believe it would if it was the same year. You would have to get the entire bumper and not just the cover as the metal bumper behind the cover is longer on ours. And for the curtain tracks, the camping and RV supply stores have or can get the curtain slides. If you find a source for curtains let me know. I always seem to miss the ones for sale on here and ebay. :M
