1988 Van Wagon seat covers - anyone find a good fit?

Post by IdahoDoug »

So, I was looking for front seat covers and due to its low volume their is nothing showing for the 1988 Van Wagon. Does anyone know if these seats were used in another Mitsu model, so I can order that size/shape? Or has anyone found any seat covers that work well? Thanks in advance.

I went to Canadian Tire (big box store in Canada) and basically got generic sheep skin seat covers, kinda like big bags (see image below). I would think there is a store like that in Idaho. Have you contacted the local Mitsubishi dealership to see if they had seat cover options for the Vanwagon? Maybe they have some in stock?

Thanks for the tip. On the Dealer, mine essentially let me know they don't really support vehicles like mine. I was there in person looking for the auto transmission filter/gasket set. Kind of a strange comment, but what can you do? Oh wait, there's this new thing called The Internet where I can order parts from anywhere and don't have to pay your dealership prices! Heh.

Mitsubishi Canada doesn't want to know the Delicas, they want us to sell these easy to repair, solidly built 4WD wagons that we got for under $10,000 and spend $40,000+ on 2WD plastic nasty computerised pieces of crap ~ eventhough the Mitsubishi Motor Company guarantees that any Mitsubishi dealership in the world will provide assistance. Mitsubishi USA, however, actually sold the Vanwagon... Do they not back their product?

I think this dealership would order whatever I want that they can, but they don't stock anything. Here in the US, that is unusual. Normally, they have a few basic things on hand. Tuneup, filters, commonly replaced sensors and such. But the parts guy was unenthusiastic, and did not lift a finger to "welcome me to Mitsubishi ownership", or in any way show interest in an old Mitsubishi like I would expect. It may just be him, personally - I dont know. But it made me resolve not to set foot in there again for parts. Funny that I have purchased two new full size loaded Monteros from this dealership, and their software was not good enough for the parts dept to know I have been a customer of theirs twice.

Anyhow, no sense complaining too much about a dealership. People like you and I get our hands on unique vehicles for our own reasons, which don't include dealership personnel, eh? Heh...

There's the issue of can't and won't. The question is can they get the parts you need? Or is it a question of they won't get you the Parts you need? Like for example, here in Ontario, we have to go buy our booze from what's called a "Liquor Store". These are neat & tidy little places that are run by the Canadian Government, and they employ folks for a very decent wage I might add. Anyway, I go to the one closest to my house and ask if they have any Flyte Vodka cause it's my favourite. The clerk says no and if he were to get some in, he'd have to order a case. I ask him how much is in a case and he say 6 bottles. I say, perfect. I know I'm not going to stop drinking any time soon. Get me the case. He says, nah, I can't be bothered. I immediately knew this was a case of, the customers always wrong.... I lsaid thanks, I guess... And I haven't been back since.

Now I'm dealing with another "Liquor Sore" that has the right attitude. What do Ya want? Cause we'll get it for Ya!!! Maybe it's time to try another Mitsu Dealership.......

Good luck:)

The problem is that Mitsubishi USA no longer stocks some parts. They are limited to what they have on hand, and when that it gone. They do tend to have poor support for older models. If the van has low support, the Starion has none. However, overseas that parts are obtainable, and I notice that you can find many parts for them on ebay, etc. Of course, you have to be careful to avoid low quality parts, and try to aim for parts made in Japan or Taiwan.

My local dealer is trying to source seat belt buckles for the front seats (under recall), and they can't find any in the USA. They are looking at ordering from overseas Mitsubishi.

I wonder how many van wagons were sold altogether? I'm quite certain they weren't offered in Canada. I'm not even sure Mitsubishi was even in Canda during this time period. But we're talking what, 2-3 years of production for the van wagon?? And quite different from what folks are used to buying in our part of the world.... I'm sure the sales weren't through the roof....

Getting back to the seat covers, I saw an L300 being sold by one of the dealers with beautiful covers that had Delica printed on them.

Digging up this question... Has anyone found a decent cover? Looking at the front seats and they're smaller than just about anything else in the U.S. I tried the "wetsuit material" covers from Costco. Blech! Don't bother.
