WVO on mainland?

Planning a pretty long trip (about 5000km) in August and recently found out that my WVO supplier has run out! I am able to refuel in Colorado but currently I am in the Okanagan with no luck sourcing. I'm able to visit the Vancouver area but going to the Island would add too much ferry cost to make the WVO trip worthwhile (unless someone wants to give me about 500L - unlikely, lol). If anyone knows where I could round up some I would greatly appreciate it. Happy travels!

If you're lurking Joe, Snowball's had a solid 40K on grease so far and nothing but happy trails.

Running that distance on WVO is great to hear. I had a sobering realization the other day:

- If fuel prices and my driving style and mileage don't change dramatically between now and Christmas 2013, then by that date....

- I will have put as many kms on my L400 in four years as the previous owners in Japan did in 15, and....

- More importantly, I will have poured the entire purchase price of my vehicle into the fuel tank.... :shock:

I did this within the first 2 months of travelling around the states (and that's cheap fuel)! :shock:

.50cents a litre - filtered and polished through a centrifuge.

Hi,

I have a couple of questions with regards to our L400...

My wife and I just bought a 1994 L400 Delica, and tinkering away on a WVO
conversion with a kit bought from PlantDrive.ca already!
Ed Beggs has been extremely personable and professional, and forthcoming
with initial explanations, as well as SUPER fast with delivery: received
the kit the day after I paid!!
The kit is fairly straight forward, but now kind of a bit stumped with
trying to find all the hoses... and an ideal placement under the hood for
the valves and filter.
If you have a good post, or pictures of it, I'd love to know!
Also would love to see where you teed off of your coolant system, and where you routed your tank lines and coolant lines...
Anyways, if you have a bit of feedback, feel free to chime in!

On another note, found a suspicious black, hard caked-on buildup around the
injector closest to the front of the engine.
Wondering if you ever might have had a similar problem and what it might
be?

Also found the glowplugs are fairly rusted in the head. to the point that
I couldn't loosen them up, even with WD40, got worried about breaking one,
and backed off.
Is that a big problem and are there any tricks for getting plugs out
without breaking them off?

A nice easy trick for getting ornery glowplugs to loosen up is to get the engine nice and hot. Be careful not to burn yourself once under the hood, but a little heat will usually do the trick. So procedure would be: soak glowplugs with a good penetrating oil, take the vehicle for a drive until it reaches operating temperature, then while the engine is freshly hot try the plugs. The dissimilar metals will expand at different rates causing any "glue" to give allowing easier removal. As I said, it will be warm under there, so if it seems too hot just gain access to the glowplugs and break them loose, then have a beverage while you wait for the engine to cool to a manageable temperature.

When I did mine I used my impact drill rather than a socket. The multiple small hits seems easier than the other on the plug. I'm talking a 12 dewalt impact and not the big air driven 1/2" tire impacts. I think everyone and their dog has a 12, 18 or 20 volt now. Or ask the neighbour.

Princess auto has the 1/4, 3/8&1/2 driver conversion on for 1.99$ this week.
