I will ask my friend in Japan about this -- he obtained a recall clearance letter on my behalf from Mitsubishi Japan...

I didn't have any recall issues to address.

There were a couple of inspection issues to address before registering my (oops, I meant to say Kevin's) vehicle. First, I needed to replace front brake rotors and tailpipe. Second, I had to install Daytime Running Lights (required on all vehicles 1990 or newer).

I hope to get in touch with my friend from Japan over the next day or so, and find out how he arranged for the recall letter...

You don't need a recall clearance letter for a 15 year old vehicle from Japan. I called to confirm this recently.

For your own peace of mind, you probably want to find out if the recall work has been done on your Delica. I know that on the UK Delica forum they said that Mitsubishi UK would do a check to ensure all recalls had been done on a person's JDM Delica. I believe they charged a small fee. I think that Mitsubishi Canada would do the same - especially as they are trying to grow market share here.

Hi Snowslide -- My friend in Japan has been very busy, but has sent me the following response on the issue of recalls on the Delica...

-Mark

Hi Mark:

I did check again on the recall situation with the Delica. There are no
recalls issued on them for 1990, 1991.

A recall letter is not required for them for entry to B.C.

There were recalls issued on the Hilux Surf, and Mitsubishi Pajero
amongst others. We always check and have the service work done if it
hadn't been completed. Wonder what other exporters do if anything...

Sorry about the slow reply on that - it has been a long time since I
sent yours and hadn't sent any in between so am very out of date!

That's good news Mark. When researching a new van 7 years ago, we went with the one with the shortest recall list, some North American van's are nasty with recalls. I was looking into a diesel Hilux next, and there is some serious issues that have arisen with the 2.4 motor which changed my mind on that course of action. I also called Toyota North America and they emailed me a recall list for all Hilux models; now I'm thinking of a Pajero j-top from later 1991.

And Mark is your Exporter available to the general public? He sounds helpful.

Hi Kevin -- my friend Colin in Japan mainly sells wholesale to BC dealerships (I'm not sure to what extent if any he's been selling vehicles to individual buyers). I'm sure he'll be more than happy to chat with you, and I can PM you his email info...
