Hello from Georgia USA

Post by Morgonzo »

Hi all, my name is Morgan and my family is very seriously considering a '88 Delica Exceed with 107,000 miles on it. We went and looked at the van yesterday and to my surprise the wife seemed more excited than me and the children (and we were pretty stoked about the van..). I've spent the past three days putting myself through a crash course of typical problems to look out for on these vans..and trying to get an idea of fair market price for these. I know that I have wiggle room to negotiate with the seller but trying to find out what's too much is hard because...there are not any other ones to compare prices with. I'm looking at trying to get him down from 13,5 (yes, 13 thousand..) to 9 or 10. I know we will be putting a grand or 2 into it to make her solid and dependable...

Any thoughts, comments or hellos appreciated!
Thanks!
M

Hello Morgan and welcome...
check out Mendel's garage for a rough idea on price; they have a few on sale. And I'm sure folks in Canada can tell you that you could get a much better price if you have the time to purchase in canada and import.

Welcome to the forum Morgan! Furi raises a good point. With today's exchange rate:

$13,000USD × 1.31
= $17,000CDN
= One heck of a nice L300 + fully-funded family vacation to Vancouver

Hey guys, thanks for the reply. I wish I had the kind of time to take a trip back to Vancouver (was there last in 2002) and pick up a sweet L330 to boot, but the only reason we are looking at all is because the wife cracked up our '90 Camry again..and even though it's still running fine, it's not the kind of car you want your co-workers to see you in. I'd been watching this Exceed for months, never thinking i'd be this close to buying it. I'm looking to offer 9, and expect to negotiate to 10. Maybe 10,500. I've looked at some of the other Delicas imported and they're all around that price down here. I'm already lining up spare parts in case we pull the trigger. If we do buy it, it'll be by the end of this week.
My life could get very psychaDelica, very quick. And I am ok with that. :-D

Also what's the deal with the cost of injectors..300 for 4.. :o I paid 350 for 8 for my '92 F350.

Thanks...

Sorry for the lame pun btw. Also, what does the glow plug indicator light look like? I thought it could have been the red image of a cylinder with a line through it? Or is that supposed to be a fuel filter light or something? I'm obviously a tad confused. The guy who was showing it to me didn't know squat about it either. I showed HIM how to lift up the pass seat to find the batt and engine.

Well it looks like we will be picking it up tomorrow for 11,000 out the door. I'm currently looking for a clean coolant expansion tank. I'll listen to any suggestions. I do not know for sure that the current one leaks, but when parts are hard to find AND prone to failure I think it helps to have it hand before you need it.
