L300 or L400?

Post by eddielee »

Hey all,
I was looking at getting a Delica and am a bit twisted on which one to get. I've been reading, sometimes it's just best to all the NewB questions right up front, in case you miss something.

From what I've read the L300 has a timing belt that needs service at 100,000 km and the L400 has a timing chain which I'm not sure there recommended service on.
Are there 100k mile belts or is the 70k mile intervals still necessary? What other service requirements do I need to consider between them? Does the L400 diesel get better efficiency than the L300, seems it does, but what's real world experience?

In a lot of way I prefer the body style of the L300. It's like the old Toyota and VW van's.
The L400's have their charm also.

Do a google search for answers. They've all been discussed on the various deli sites before.

From what I've read L400's can have issues with rust on the frames. If you're in the market for one be sure to really check the cross members for rust.
