I will make myself available for whatever day comes up. I've been threatning to take the kids out to the mountains and leave them there, sounds like a perfect chance! No witnesses, right? (yes i'm kidding, --- kind of.)

Hey all!

It's great to see some enthusiasm for getting out to the mountains and am glad to see CalgaryHHR is keen to get out there too. McLean Park is a good place to have a bit of fun. Have done a bit of scouting along a few of the trails but haven't pushed too far as I have always been by myself. Depending on everyone's familiarity with 4WDing, we can keep it relatively tame with a few challenges thrown in for the experience and familiarization with the Delicas capabilities - we can talk those thru that don't have the experience. McLean is mapped as well but no notes of trail difficulty exist - I can attest to a significant variety of difficulty tho.

Having a picnic is a great idea as well. There's a number of options I have found out there... as Erebus says, west of Millarville is nice (Mesa Butte area), Sheep River Valley is absolutely stunning - a little further from the road into McLean but do-able for a little longer day and the Elbow Valley side is great too but can be more crowded.

Would be great if we can meet somewhere in the south end of Calgary and convoy it out there together. Can plan a schedule so anyone only able to make it for part of the day can find the group later on or make it home earlier.

My wife will be out of town on the weekend of the 11th and 12th and I believe she is also out of town on the 19th but not sure - she's not keen about off-roading.

Anyone who doesn't have a Delica or off-road capability would of course still be welcome and there will be lots of opportunity for photos and video along the way. Let's show the BC folks how it's done and get as many out as we can. 8-)

Cheers!
Ian

I prefer the idea of an overnight campout with option for people to come out for only one day.

I'm committed already for the Bow-80 mountain bike race on 19 Sept (post of last year's event: http://www.delica.ca/forum/delica-to-th ... -6354.html).

11 Sept weekend is a little too close.

Proposal #1
I suggest 25/26 September as my preferred. I suggest we do Northfork for overnight camping. People can come for picnic Sat and stay or go home. Others can join us Sunday as we go mild 4x4ing in McLean Creek and another picnic, then through Bragg Creek and home.

Proposal #2
September 26 is the 8th annual River City Classics Show and Shine in High River. There will be over 500 cars on display, antique, muscle, hot rod, etc. (http://www.rivercityclassics.com/Main%2 ... tails.html) Amazing show, takes over High River, and is completely free to attend. Could combine with Proposal #1 and go to High River on Sunday instead of McLean Creek. We'd make quite the spectacle by showing up with a bunch of Delicas.

Hey Erebus, I'm okay with anything you guys put together.

I was hoping for something on the 11th because I was thinking it might be a good weekend for camping. I'm afraid it will be too cold to camp later in September especially with my kid who is only 9 months old (don't want to deal with a sick kid later.)

Thanks for the link to the High River car show. I had not heard about that before. It should be good to check out.

I'm up for going out for a day to meet up with you guys and check out the vans and have a little BBQ. I have to check my schedule though because I have a party to attend near the end of September on a Saturday (don't remember which one right now.) My buddy is visiting from Japan and is having an engagement/wedding party. I'm going to talk with him about maybe having him help in finding a van over there. Heck, maybe him and I can make it into a business (maybe we'll need some individuals with knowledge and funds to help as well - wink, wink)

Take it easy guys

Hey, anyone can do the organizing. Just grab the bull by the horns, then don't let go or you get gored.

There's no reason we can't have a quicky meet here in town on the 11th, then also do the campout thing. I expect/hope to go flying on the 11th, so wouldn't be available until late afternoon.

Don't look to me for advice on import/export, I had someone else do it. I just know there is lots of paperwork and regulation.

I will actually be in Alberta on the weekend of the 18,19 and would be able to represent the Lower Mainland crowd.

But if you decide on meeting at IKEA, I boycott on principal alone. ;-)

Okay... so THAT was a busy week. I am glad to see some dialogue on meeting dates and times. I am relatively flexible so am letting others note on their availablility. Would be great if we could get the BC guys in on it too so maybe the 18th could be a good day for a daytrip as erebus is tied up on the 19th. No reason we can't have a couple of get-togethers too - one big event and a couple small events. Any excuse to get out to McLean Offroad Park...

Will check back in a bit and in the meantime I will try to get some scouting info from the Canada Toyota 4WD Club... they are VERY active in offroading here and know the trails very well.

On Saturday the 18th I will be SW of Calgary (west of Bragg Creek) on Hwy 66 for the afternoon, before heading up Moose Mtn for the bike race. I can meet people in Calgary in the morning, or people can join me out west for a while and create a spectacle of Delicas. Can probably even arrange camping Sat night (possibly free) were the other people of the race will be staying -- I think it is Paddy's Flats. I spend the night on the top of the mountain so I'm in position early Sunday morning, but that's a gated road, so I can't invite others to join me.

RichD, would you be able to bring a set of 4 rims that kidwrecked has for me? He lives in Cultus Lake, so not far from you, and kinda on the way.

Hmm, either that is a huge compliment and I'm blushing, or my ego takes raging offence at being only a "minor" celibrity. :-D Ah, I think I'll take it as a compliment.
