Pajero batteries keep dying

Post by JDMaster »

Hey there guys, so my pajero has been doing wierd stuff. Recently I replaced the turbo, and fixed leaking problems but it seems during the time it was sitting in my driveway something happened, the batteries keep dying. My pajero has two batteries, not sure which is the accessory and which is the starter but both keep draining within a few hours. Anyways found out that they are not charging probably due to the alternator but still doesn't explain why after one drive they are already dead all over again. Any ideas?

Are the batteries original (as in the ones that came with the Paj from Japan?).
Are the batteries over 2 years old? Some batteries have been known to fail to hold a charge once they have been discharged or run very low.

Take your Paj to Parts-Source....they will do a free charging system evaluation and tell you if your batteries are poor or if the alternator is putting out enough amps.

And your batteries are normally connected in parallell so they both provide starter power....unless you have some sort isolator unit......do you have one of these?

If one battery is shot it will prevent a proper charge and it will sap power from the good battery because of the parallell wiring and usually make a start slow or impossible (clicking starter).

(i inadvertantly types series for the battery hookup....I meant parallell)

Sorry just gotta jump in.. The van is wired in parallel. Do not wire the batteries in series. I haven't heard of a 24 volt deli, just yet.. :)

I was having same problem on my
92 pajero.
Changed alternator. (Bit of a drag but did it)
Problem solved.
This was after new new batteries
And problem persisted.
Had good voltage but no good amperage I suspect.

If you can afford it do it and call it a day.
(Hopefully)

Right On! 8-)

Ditto what Luna-Sea says. Same thing...bought new batteries and they died. Had the alternator rebuilt...was about 300 which included taking it out, rebuilt and put back in.
