need a new fuel tank or way to fix mine

Post by strada-caster »

For a strada, the l300, l400, and pajero tank is completely different in shape.

I put a pretty good crack (bottom of tank) in my fuel tank due to a tree stump. It's now about one inch long, and will get larger over time just from vibration alone.
So far I've tried 'seal all' with some 'dual color putty' (forgot the name but dries to steel strength stuff) on top, and it looks like in the long run, this will not hold up. I let the seal all dry first. This fix might hold a 1/4 tank pressure but no more.

My question is:
Where have all the veggy conversion and dual tank delicas got their extra fuel tank made?
or
The other alternative is, weld the crack. anybody know anyone with the cohonees to pull that off. It scares the crap out of me, but i'm a major beginner when it comes to welding.

Most radiator shops fix metal fuel tanks....it is easy (they clean them first so no fuel!)

If you are not able to repair your tank, check for a fuel tank for a Dodge Ram 50 1989 4wd 4cyl. 2.6l. carburetor.
It's direct fit, keep the fuel gauge and the tubing from the Strada.
Wish it will help.

Diesel tanks are safer to weld than gasoline tanks. You should be able to get this repaired by a certified welder.

Strada,

To stop the crack from getting any longer, drill a hole at both ends of the crack. they can be filled in later - they dont have to be very big,

All excellent info, thanks alot guys.

Not many places fix fuel tanks anymore apparently, but it looks like Townside Automotive in Victoria can do a clean and repair for a decent price.
