The lock mechanism inside the door can get dirty and the interlock mechanism won't move all the way to properly engage the main catch...or pin.
If the hatch door has dropped a little due to hinge bolt tightness/alignment this could also prevent proper engagement.
Doors are finicky and a little love (aka cleaning/adjustments) usually fixes the issues.
I think I wanna host a maintain your Delica day this summer.....Calgary based but all would be welcome....just bring some tools and your own parts

I would definately be down- BigBird fixed my back door latch last summer and it works awesome. Now if I could properly clean out all the key locks and lub them up...

Has this Maintain Your Delica Day happened yet? I would like to come down from Edmonton and have you help with the removal of my gate latch!

Re: rear hatch wont close/latch REPAIRED
Hey guys. my first post. just insured my new baby yesterday; :D
I had the same issue of the rear latch not catching.
after a quick read for some ideas on this thread I just got back from fixing it. (hour and a half)
took off the rear internal panel and detached the 2 rods and took out the latch mechanism unit.
sprayed the crap out of it with liquid wrench penetrent and wd-40 and compressed air a bunch (left it for a wee bit), then moved all the parts a bunch which loosened up the gunk and/or rust in there so everything was moving properly and springing back properly.
that did it! :)
door still has some play, so I might adjust the catch; move it in a bit at some point.
now on to everything else that needs tweeking! :P

Re: rear hatch wont close/latch REPAIRED
This is a great thread! I am currently having the same problem and from what I can tell i'm going to have to take the inside door panel off and take a look.. Any tips on where to find the screws and how to pop those inside plastic panels off? Sorry if it seems pretty newbie.. I am though haha (also i'll continue searching site to see if more info on this problem is elsewhere)
Thanks for any help!
