Dash Lights / Wiring / Logic

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Dash Lights / Wiring / Logic

Post by VirtualJJ »

Hey Folks,

My main instument panel doesn't light up anymore.

However, all of the rest of the dashboard lights, including the warning lights, button and switch clusters, as well as the centre pod still work as they should.

This probably indicates a lack of continuity at a certain specific point in the dashboard wiring; and could also mean that the possible location of the fault could be narrowed down by someone familiar with L300 dashboard wiring.

Any suggestions?

Also, this opens up the question: if I am already going to take the dash apart, should I consider some custom lighting for the instrument panel? I was thinking of maybe some EL wire around the edges... very TRON-y.

Sounds like a bad connection at the main plug for the dash gauges Its on the back of the gauge pod. Problem is there are about 25 or so contacts and which one is which is dificult to identify. Good luck Jay Tardis Deli

Oh Dear!

I guess it's one of these four rather interesting looking connectors....

I'm just going to hope I can re-seat the connectors and all will be fine...

Mine did that and it was the infamous triple switch (turn signal, headlight, highbeam lever) to blame. You may want to try that before you go testing all those contacts, they seem to fail all the time AND, there's a handy dandy new repair writeup with pictures (thank you Falco!)

I haven't taken this on yet... the problem is intermittant, and right now the lights work.

I have tried jiggling the lever a bit to see if anything happens, but no result.

I guess I'm taking the steering wheel off then!

(scary)

Excellent tutorial though, Thanks!

Ya, mine were intermittent, then they crapped out entirely, then about a week later they came on again and worked great for about a month, then REALLY dead. Stupid switch...

There are a set of railroad tracks in my neighborhood that, when driven over, would randomly kill or rectivate my dash lights......

Dust. Go to London Drugs or Staples, purchase an air bomb, blow out all the connexions, clean the contacts. Or maybe it's a loose connexion?

I agree, Falco.

I no longer suspect the combo lever, as that switches all of the dash lights to an on/off state, whereas my problem is a partial lights on/off, so I assume the fault is somewhere where the power distribution splits to the various bulbs, rather than the switch that activates power to the dash illumination circuit.
