UPPER Control Arm Bushings

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

UPPER Control Arm Bushings

Post by thedjjack »

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, It looks like I have to repair my Upper Control Arm Bushings in the near future, Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Problem is it looks as if you cannot just buy the bushings for the upper (few people make kits for the Montaro)....

So what are people doing??? New Upper Control Arms? Bushing Kits (If so what kit??), Taking it apart and having bushings made?

Is the Delica Control Arms and/or bushing size unique to Delica or shared???

For the cost I am tempted to do a SAS (just do not have the time right now to do a SAS)....

HELP!!! I suspect if you look close at your L300 bushings they will need replacing soon (the pressure from the torsion bar is constantly trying to tear the front bushing off....

I've done them. pain in the ass. you need a special press to get them out.

you can buy them from any of the JDM dealers. If memory serves me correctly, they are around 50-60 ea.

montero one's are not compatible. different control arms / torsion bar is on the bottom on montero's.

SAS is a major time consuming project.

Replacing control arm bushings is just a service job. Big difference.

Is that Upper control arm bushings? I can find the lower, but not the upper (I have not picked up the phone yet).

I know it is going to be a pain in the ass, but wallet dictates I will be fixing this (I will have to take them to someone to press them in, but I am the lucky one that will be pulling the control arms!! Lucky me! I cannot wait!!)

I have done SAS in the past would be nice, but just do not have the time (I realistic between maintenance and fabrication (just trying to figure out the steering box and linkage for a SAS keeps me up at night still!) , plus the Biff would need a rebuild for what ever axle I found.

I've done both upper and lowers. Usually the lowers are the one's that go but upper's are just as much of a pain.

To install them, make sure that the full load of the delica is on the ground before you tighten them. Also an alignment after you put them back in.

I might do the lowers when I am in there (I do not need the Delica daily so gives me some time to pull it apart)

Thanks for the info...I sent off an email for to suppliers for parts (suppliers feel free to PM me prices)

Cheers

I got them from either Mardy at Amazing Auto or John at RMI. Depends on who has the in stock at the time and is closest.

UPDATE:

I have talked or emailed most suppliers of Delica parts here is what I learned:

REPLACE THE CONTROL ARM $75 - $500 (used to OEM) :o :o :o X1,000

Now on the Austrian / UK site (Upper Wishbone Bushes is what I seek in UK-Austrian English):

-Pajero owners are ordering American repair kits to fix (Lordco has in stock $50-100 depends on maker)..

The kit fits all Monteros and most Might-max, dodge raider etc... 2wd or 4wd

My hope is the mount is the same on the L300...

Looking at the design and wear on my bushings I would be in shock if at least 30% L300 do not need this repair!!!

one can try but I don't think it's possible as the Montero/Pajero's upper control arm is the recipient of the torsion bar whereas the L300/L400 the lower control arm is the recipient of the torsion bar.

good luck on the hunt David 8-)

Nope Torsion Bars go to the top on my L300 (just double checked!)

The kit will be in tomorrow at my local Lordco (I will have a better idea tomorrow). I looked at a Montero blog and in the grainy photos the top control arm mount looks reals similar.

I will keep everyone posted. I ordered the more expensive MOOG Kit....

Cheers

I'm standing on my head when I typed that. :-D

L300/L400 torsion bar = upper control arm
Montero/Pajero torsion bar = lower control arm
would make the bushings different from each other
