Glow plugs.....glow plugs.....
Hello, folks,
I have been scrolling through past threads, trying to diagnose my latest glow plug problem, but can't find what I need.
So, I have been having trouble cold starting the Delica anywhere below 0 degrees C. It has an oil pan heater and an inline block heater plugged in as well. I have a big black smokeshow, and hard cranking start and stalls....
I replaced all glow plugs today with: HKT # CP-06 Ref. # MD 092392 MODEL Mitsubishi 4D56.
These new plugs looked the same as the old ones I removed, same size, same thread, etc.
I replaced everything exactly like it was before: the wires, the bar. And now there is no "click" at all when I turn the key, and it does not start, just turns over and over.
So, what have I done? What went wrong here? How can I check it or change it? It is parked indoors, so it is not freezing.
Please advise, a.s.a.p.
Thank you,
Brandelica

Are you getting power to the bus bar?
Measure it twice, cut once. Dam still cut wrong

Did you test your old plugs before you replaced them?

Re: Glow plugs.....glow plugs.....
x3 on the voltage check.
Get a multimeter, set it to dc, put the red contact on the bus bar, and the black on the body of one of the glow plugs then turn your ignition to the 'ON' position. You should be getting around 9-11V I think? Somebody may need to correct me. Point is, you should be getting something. If not, I would suspect the GP ECU. I had a couple of capacitors leak a month after buying my van. I had them replaced and it works great!
Hopefully this helps.

Install a manual glow plug switch.
When problems like this occur, you can still start.
Test old and new glow plugs as previouos posts.

Test old and new glow plugs as previous posts.
I would encourage anyone who has cold start problems to Install a manual setup with a button. When I got my Pajero a few years back the glow plug system worked for about a month and then stopped. I replaced EVERYTHING in hopes to get to function properly with no luck!! and used all OEM parts too! and still it would fail, or a least be unreliable. I tried and tried as i like it when thing function as they are meant to from factory.
after wasting loads of time and money I just bought a set of 11v glow plugs and installed a little switch on the left side of the steering column and relayed a trigger wire (+ feed) to the trip on the main relay under the hood. haven't had a problem in 3 years now.
If you like a could give you step by step instructions if you need help.
Also Having your injection timing will REALLY improve cold starts!!
good luck

Re: Glow plugs.....glow plugs.....
Hello, everyone,
Thank you, thank you.
I am going to get a multimeter and test to see if I am getting power to the bar. And I will try to find the ecu box, somewhere under the driver seat? and see if it is disconnected or whatnot.
Also, very important, DO I HAVE THE CORRECT GLOW PLUGS INSTALLED? HKT CP-06?? Are these the right voltage? 1992 Delica superexceed. Are these 6.2 V or 11V, and which kind do I need, anyways?
Also, how does one adjust the injection timing? If I bring it in to a shop, how much does this cost?
Also, Please, WHite mule, if you can give a detailed and specific instruction about how to make the manual glow switch, please do!!
Again, thank you everyone for your kind attention.

HKT CP-06 is the 6.2V so you are safe. Do not install 11V plugs in your 92 Delica or you may risk burning the tips off and causing piston/head damage.
Adjusting the injection timing involves rotating the injection pump itself with the use of a specific bosch dial gauge.

Re: Glow plugs.....glow plugs.....
OK here goes
you'll need a single pole switch
a relay
some wire
a fuse holder and 10amp fuse
4 11Volt Glow plugs
first install the glow plugs (clean all connections and buss bar etc)
install a switch push button type momentary single pole in the dash, connect on side to ground and the other to the relay as shown in the sketchy diagram
The output of the relay gets spliced (cut the wire shielding, splice, solder and re tape) to the light green wire on the vehicles glow plug solenoid. (the one with the black plastic connection)
Mount the relay somewhere under the hood, wire up according to diagram, attaching power last (after you've double check all other connections)
make sure the inline fuse is installed close to the the positive terminal.
when all is installed and working correctly, you will hear the solenoid "snap" when you hit the button and get 12volts at the bus bar
Also if your solenoid is not functioning then you can replace it at LORDCO for $23 . part #S5049
hopefully this all make sense and excuse the dirty pics of under the hood!!! needs a clean I know

Re: Glow plugs.....glow plugs.....
Exact same experience I had when attempting to replace my OEM Mitsu green-top dual-voltage MD092392 GPs with aftermarket CP-06. Afterwards I compared the resistance between the 2 and there was maybe 1/2 an ohm diff (CP-06 something like 1.3 ohm and MD092392 something like 0.8 ohm)...but it's obviously enough to cause the ECM to not switch-on power to the GP's solenoids. Similar info here: http://www.delica.ca/forum/glow-plug-cl ... 96-64.html ...and a ton of info all about the tempermental "Super Quick Glow System" used for a brief period in 92-93 can be found on the UK Deli & Paj sites. Bottom line is that, apparantly, most aftermarket GPs advertised as replacements for the OEM MD092392 won't work.Brandelica Winnipegger wrote:I replaced all glow plugs today with: HKT # CP-06 Ref. # MD 092392 MODEL Mitsubishi 4D56.

Re: Glow plugs.....glow plugs.....
Glow plugs have different resistant and voltage....same thread + same length does not equal same plug.
If you change you plugs and get nothing...you have the wrong plugs.
Manual switch is an option and so is installing the proper plugs.
I posted a boshe catalog in an other thread. There are many different glow plugs for the 4D56T motor. You need the right plugs.
