Bad diesel?

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Bad diesel?

Post by Johnny&Ruby »

Our L300 was running fine yesterday, then I stopped at a station to fuel up; put $30 in the tank, drove it home. Then later that day, upon starting, she was really "sputtery" and more-than-normal clouds of white smoke outta the tailpipe. And this morning?! Hoooo. Good thing it's foggy in Victoria this morning. And she was really unsure of herself, coughing and sputtering enough that I pulled out the choke further and just let her work through it. Still smoking as my wife left for work in her 10 minutes later, though not as badly as when initially started...

So. Bad batch of diesel fuel... or something else? Thoughts appreciated. Thanks!

When my Deli started belching clouds of white smoke, it was just seconds after that I noticed it smelled like antifreeze and found out that the head cracked.

OK. So my wife drove the van to work today and it seemed fine. Then on the drive home, she thought she'd put in some more fuel. But when she got to the gas station and opened cap she smelled what she thought was regular gas. So possibly the guys at the full serve (and I don't know *why* I pulled into a full serve yesterday, I really don't), possibly they put in regular gas/petrol? My wife freaked out and decided not to put any more diesel in the tank, and then on her drive home the van stalled twice. Which it has NEVER done in all the years we've owned it.

My question is: can a Deli run on regular petrol for a bit and does it wreck anything? Should I just siphon out the tank and fill it with diesel?

HELP!

God, I'm such a noob. Owned this van for close on 5 years now and still an idiot.

This > http://www.delica.ca/forum/gasoline-doe ... 11997.html < is definitely what has happened. I'd appreciate the advice/assistance of any Deli owners in Victoria who have had, or are familiar with, this problem.

Drain as much as you can and refill with fresh diesel also put a new filter on it to cover you butt
Measure it twice, cut once. Dam still cut wrong

The filter was new July 24. Can we get away with it? Probably not, eh? Are you in Victoria, legionnair? I could use the help of some Victoria folk.

NOT "BAD DIESEL"! GASOLINE! HELP! Re: Bad diesel?

Post by Johnny&Ruby »

We're now estimating that there's, at most, 20L of gasoline in there (I did a sniff test, and my landlord confirmed; it's gas. Eff.), on top of whatever diesel was in there (not a lot, the gauge was on E but not lit up yet, so, what, 15L? 10L?)

We've only traveled 40km with the gasoline. And won't be moving any further. I'm reading posts here on dilution and the possibility of throwing in a couple litres of canola oil (to reduce any solvent effects and aid lubrication) along with a fill up of the high quality diesel.

The fuel pump is only a couple months old. We were up at Coombs County Auto for the full tune-up/check-over in July.

Thoughts and advice are *really* appreciated right now...

How much room do you have in your tank? I remember hearing someone say you can blend 10% gas w veggie. Could try putting in straight veggie until it is full and then keep adding.

We don't run veggie! Just regular old pump diesel. Which I suppose is part of why we're having this problem.

So, what do you think? Couple gallons of canola oil and fresh diesel and we'll be out of the woods?

I think if you look carefully each tank has a drain. One of the holes in the steel protection has a bolt you could undo. At least mine has!

You say you only added 20L of gas how much diesel was in the tank to begin with?. If you can syphon out a jerry can worth and then top up the tank with diesel. Followed by removing the fuel filter allow it to drain same with the lines. Then refill the filter with diesel and add half a litre of 2-stroke oil to the tank. Prime the fuel system and allow it to run at idle for ten minutes. Then you should be fine

I was kind of thinking it might be something like that, mine doesnt have one, but I thought I'd read somewhere of their existence. I'm used to seeing them on old landies though.

After all, a choke on a diesel doesn't make sense.

1992 and earlier. The MLB has one (hand throttle).
