2000 Delica L300??

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

2000 Delica L300??

Post by philmeup1 »

Hey there folks,

I'm just curious, Silk Road Autos is advertising a Delica on here saying its a model year 2000. The title said something like P25 Charmonix Classic. I thought they stopped making the L300 body style in 1997.... The front of the van looked a little more modern than my 1993. But otherwise everything else seemed the same.

The van looks beautiful. Just curious if the year stated is actually correct or perhaps a typo....

Mitsubishi, according to their website, last produced the L300 Delica in 2006. This was only for export as the car was not sold in Japan for a number of years prior to that. So, it could very well be an L300.

Ahh, thanks Erich. I wonder if they made any decent LHD L300 for import to other countries....

Hard to say. There were about 12,000 made in 2006, if I recall. Airbags and two air conditioners makes this look like a good deal.

not sure I would want an airbag to punch me in the face with my legs trapped in a front ender...

kind of like a motorcycle airbag... loved my L300 but realistic about the level of safety

Yeah, I had several VW Busses and they're along the same lines. The common joke was, if in an accident you're first on the scene but last to leave... :?

Still, I'm intrigued with these newer L300's. They look to be almost exactly the same body wise as the older ones with some newer mechanics inside. Great if you ever need body parts I guess. Just like the old air cooled VW's...

You can get a lot of these newer Delica in Europe (LHD), I have checked (Go at WWW.leparking.fr and type L300). Most are rusted, are low roof (No Starwagon), have 300 000km or if clean, cost a lot and will cost you 2 to 3X a Japaneese Delica. A good source for LHD and Later Delica Model would be from Taiwan but I do not know of any trader that can get these for us...

Yeah, when I was considering my first Delica, the one I'm driving now, I was initially hung up on the RHD thing. I posted a question about sourcing a LHD model instead. I was told not to bother buying a Delica at all if the RHD thing is a deal breaker. I understand now why that is. Outside of Japan, these vans are typically used and abused beyond their worth. A friend of mine married a girl from the Phillipines where there are lots of these vans. And most of them are junk :-( .

It would be neat though if you could purchase a LHD 2006 L300 if the condition was decent enough. And there wouldn't be the hassle of insurance which here in Ontario is ridiculous....

Hey Lapprentis,

That link you sent is quite interesting. Didn't see too many newer L300's but quite a few neat looking campers.... My French is terrible and I'm not sure what the currency conversion is either  I'd bet there's a market for those campers here though.... And I know a great importer!!

I think the last Delica Starwagon (L300) was produced by Mitsubishi in 1998. I think the last L300 Express Van was produced by Mitsubishi in 2007. I'm not certain about this and I know that Wikipedia says the Starwagon was produced by Mitsubishi up to 2007 ~ but I also know that anyone and his dog can edit Wikipedia, speak with authority and everyone will believe them.

Falco, you are right about Wiki. However, the information I got was directly from Mitsubishi's annual report which listed all the models of cars Mit produced in 2006, where they were produced and where they went. I try to find the link again.

As Delica Starwagons or as L300s? L300 body types were used in a few applications such as the Vanwagon or the Express Wagon.

I know CMC produced (and may still do) the "Classic" Starwagons, Nxski had the front grille off one of those on his Japanese Starwagon, "Hermione". The CMC ones were gasoline powered. There is also the Dodge 1000 made in Mexico. MMC has agreements with CMC, Hyundai, Chrysler... I'm sure there is more. I'm interested in what you glean from the MMC website, Erich.

You can still buy L300's brand new in New Zealand:

Falco, I can't find the original link which showed a difference in production between an L300 and an L300 Delica Starwagon, but this link http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/en/cor ... ct2006.pdf will give you an idea. of what the numbers look like. I had heard that they didn't meet crash tests in Japan, even with the airbags and bigger bumper seen on this 2000 model, so they were still being made and exported. The few sold in Japan were probably special ordered for export.
