Intermittent higher idle

Post by deskinthewoods »

I noticed the other day, at a stoplight, that the idle was up around 1000RPM. Normally it’s 750RPM. I made a mental note to adjust it but when I got home it was back to 750.

Next day, back up to 1000. Got home, 750.

Any ideas what would cause this?

I had this problem several years ago. It would happen in the late fall and winter whenever I when over 3000' elevation. In the summer it would rarely happen. I was told it was likely the governor sleeve sticking. I decided it wasn't a big problem so left it until I needed to get the I/P pump rebuilt. After I had that done it never happened again!
