Workshop in Vancouver?

Post by Delica_Dave »

Hi team,

Can anyone recommend a workshop to help me deal with a pesky oil leak in Vancouver? With CVI moving out to Langley in need to find someone closer.

The closer to Vancouver the better.

Thank you kindly in advance!

I've used Silk Road for things like timing belt replacement etc. and Abdul has always done good work @ a more than reasonable price. He has worked on 1000's on Delica's and should be able to find an oil leak.

Crown Tech Automotive in North Van are really good, and pretty adept at servicing Delicas.

Take a gander through "Dealer Feedback, Beefs, and Bouquets", a few read-ups in there that might help you.

Falco.
P.S.: I'm moving this thread to the above mentioned forum as it's more related to that forum than General Discussion.

+1 to this question! Butch has done every lick of work on my Delica for almost a decade -- I'm a little lost without him. If anyone can recommend a half-decent East Vancouver shop that'll change the oil without starting at the wrong end, I'll be much obliged.

Hi all -- I ended up going to Crown Tech, just for an oil/oil filter change, but it was quick and cheerful and I felt like my L300 was in good hands.

Thanks for raising this question, I've been wondering who to go to now that Butch is out of striking range for me as an east Van dweller. Feels sacreligious because I've been a faithful customer since 2011.

Although I have never had anything done there, I've met the owner of and heard good reports for "RJD" in North Van. I believe they are on Rupert Street.

Rising Sun in New Westminster. They have been exclusive Delica's for 10 years and did excellent work for me recently. I am sure there may be other good shops in Vancouver, but Steven and David have been great to me since day one and I will be a customer of theirs for a long time to come.

I'm in the same court. My 91 Delica has always had two bi-annual visits to CVI. I live in downtown Vancouver and won't be going out to Langely for CVI so here are the options, IMO in order of Delica specialization if you are based in Vancouver:

1) Rising Sun in New Westminster: They have only worked on Delicas for 10 years and have tons of Delica-specific parts around. You're go-to for big, Delica-knowledge heavy jobs IMO (belts, IP, radiator, etc.). They are Delica specialists.

2) RJD in North Vancouver - they get a lot of Delicas, but also work on other types of cars. Issue here is that since July 2017 there seems to be a two-week wait period to get in. I have an emergency now and have to go to Rising Sun. This seems to be RJD's downside. I've been once and they know Delicas very well.

3) Mardy @ Amazing Auto in Richmond. Mardy was the first to import L300s into Canada he claims. He doesn't have a service shop but I think if you have an L300 he will work with the mechanic he is training next door for any maintenance issues.

Ones I haven't used are Crown Tech Automotive in North Van (Falco likes), and Maximum Overdrive which is just metres from Rising Sun, but Rising sun appears to the be the maintenance-specific shop.

The property bubble in Vancouver is driving maintenance shops further and further away.

Falco dislikes. Crown Tech has a reputation for poor workmanship and in one account from a member whom took his Starwagon in for an oil change and discovered that one of his headlamps had been switched out for a Japanese headlamp (E43). Having said that, they have apparently since changed management and don't touch Delicas whatsoever.

I had a great experience with Russell at RJD. He knows his stuff, is pragmatic w.r.t. needed repairs vs. “nice to have”, and charges reasonable rates. He has my business now.
