Super Select problem
I am having troubles with my super select system. I can shift into 2H, 4H and 4HLc but cannot shift into 4LLc. I have tried reversing/driving forward in a straight line, as well as pushing forward hard to shift it.
Is there a secret to shifting to 4LLc? I noticed the diagram on the shifter doesn't continue the line to 4LLc. Am I missing something? Do I have to twist it or tap it nicely?

I saw that, but I have no trouble shifting to all the gears EXCEPT low. I shift while in neutral, then drive forward/reverse to make the green or orange light stop blinking. BUT I cant get to 4 LOW

The L400 automatic tranny needs to be in Park or Neutral before it will allow the transfercase lever into 4Lo. It can't be shifted into 4Lo while the transmission is in any other position.
If its difficult to shift into 4Lo try pushing the transfer case lever down while shifting left and then hard to the right. this will usually loosen the linkage which can get stiff from lack of use.
I tried this with my own L400 while I typed this up just to confirm operation and my Japanese Manual has pics which show the same info.

I will try this tomorrow. I don't think the P.O. used the 4wd much, let alone the 4low. So I hope it's just a stubborn linkage that needs to be loosened...

Is it actually possible to shift the transfer case lever past 4HLc? I thought you just used to gear shift to drop down into Low while you're are in 4HLc to achieve 4Llc.

The transmission does not allow the driver to shift in and out of 4Hi Lock and 4Lo Lock unless the vehicle is stopped. Trying to force this gear shift while moving usually breaks things in short order.
I went back and checked the shifter handle on my Transfer Case and a few others like this one online. You must PUSH down in order to engage 4Lo. This is a safety feature that prevents the shifter from being dropped into low gear by accident.

Aaa part of the diagram on my handle had faded off. Always thought 4Lo was geared to high haha

Verified I can get it in and out of all the gears. But after switching between 4LLoc, 4HLoc, 4H, my green lights for the wheels stopped working. The orange center loc still turns on, but the green lights are all out

The bulbs are probably burned out. Easy fix but the instrument cluster needs to be pulled to change them. The bulbs are held in with a twist lock plastic socket at the back. They are not the usual #194 type dash bulbs. They are about half that size but can bought at any parts counter like Canadian Tire, Lordco, etc. The link below shows a pic of 4 in a group.
If the green light for the front wheel flashes thats a different problem related to the vaccuum actuators and if the yellow center diff light flashes thats a transmission sensor issue. Both are common issues.
Read this to see the R&R process for the instrument cluster. While in there you could check all the bulbs for signs of blackness which would be a good reason to change them out.

PS: you don't need to remove the clear plastic cover to change bulbs.

Well I don't know what the problem is. The next time I turned the van on the lights worked again. I haven't tried putting it into 4wd since, but the lights are back to normal. Weird.
last time I put it into 4wd I drove a short distance in 4H and noticed it was hard to steer (I could turn the wheel easily, but it would only go so far left/right)
Is this normal? Or maybe the central lock wasn't disengaged at this point?

When the center diff is engaged the L400 won't steer easily on dry surfaces....it feels like its binding while you turn. I always back up 3-5 feet after I disengage the center diff lock, then I know its uncoupled. The other owners will say you don't need to do this but It doesn't hurt if you do and I for one prefer to be sure its uncoupled.
As for your super select lights....they might be getting ready to die and a bump in the road may have jarred the filaments back. If you decide to get adventurous and do open it up watch for bulbs with dark grey or silver coating inside....this means they are about to die or have burned out.
I am gonna buy LED's for mine so they last longer.
