2000 V6 Delica 6g72 Head gasket job/kit

Post by jamengual »

Hi.

My delica smoked white steam since I bought it and since I'm car guy with experience on rebuilding 3 engines ( not much but just to set the plain field) I knew it was the headgasket and today I found bubbles on coming up into the reservoir so it is going to be time soon to do the job.

The delica have 70k on it and I got it from Japan, kms could be fake but it does look like it was sitting a while an not driven much so maybe that is the reason why the head gasket failed but at this point it does not matter.

I will use some seal-it or some other additive for now but I want to get the parts and I want to do the timing belt and water pump too so I was looking for kits and I found this :

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fit-99-05-Mits ... :rk:3:pf:0
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dayco-Timing-B ... 3611661599

Anyone can tell me if any of those kit will work and should I get each part separately ?

And to do the Job I was thinking to pull the engine out and change all seals and such too , I have the space and tools but I wonder if there is anything that tricky in removing the engine?

I'm in Canada by the way.

Thanks.

i did a timing blet and wp on my v6 a few weeks back. get a continentail kit. they are cheaper also. the valve cover gasket on the passenger side was a nightmare to do.

taking the engine out would be easier to do but u need a really good lift.

Do you happen to have the kit part number ?

did it include the water pump and hydraulic tensioner ?

Log onto Megazip (japan) and compare pictures of their headgasket kit and Rockauto's Continental timing belt kit to see if all the parts are in the kit.

It's time consuming but the only way to make sure you have the correct kit. Rockautos timing belt kit had all the correct parts and was so much cheaper than any canadian dealer.

To remove the engine you need a commercial hydraulic lift. (I only dropped mine down) Lucky you if you have access to one.

The odd things were:
remove 2 engine top ground straps, firewall wiring connector at engine, air flow sensor wire
Transmission selector at transmission and cooling hoses both side underneath, cooling block plug on drivers side and rubber hoses for 4 WD selector. Lots more but can't remember all right now.

buy engine center (between the heads) front of cooling line o ring and rear of these lines gaskets. (see Megazip pictures for part numbers) https://www.megazip.net/zapchasti-dlya- ... ue9-625031
or Amayama https://www.amayama.com/en

Try Continental mitsu montero sport timing belt kit GTKWP259 was $120 cad at Rockauto. Compare with CCA parts picture for all parts needed.

CCA in Coombs removes the V6 engine to do all the initial import repairs. Expensive but the only way to do it right!

A second set of eyes is handy as the engine drops down...

PM me if you want help. I don't mind getting my hands dirty.
good luck

Thanks so much for the info an the offer of help, I think I will take you on that once I source all the parts.

I will take the time to compare everything, nothing worse than buying a kit and having half the parts do do not fit.

happy new year

I looks like my cart will end up with this :

CONTINENTAL GTKWP259 Elite Series; Includes Hydraulic Tensioner = CAD$165.24
1
2001 MITSUBISHI MONTERO SPORT 3.0L V6 Engine : Cylinder Head Gasket / Set BENGINETECH MI30HSD Set = CAD$93.47
2xFEL-PRO 9537PT {#MD320044} PermaTorqueMLS = 18.25
Cylinder Head Bolt AFEL-PRO ES72859 {#MD065959} = CAD$36.50

about $332 CAD.

That timing belt kit and that head bolt set are correct for your Delica. Those cylinder head gaskets have the incorrect thickness. Both eBay listings at the start of this thread do not match your Delica. For the 3.0L engine up to 7/2002, look for the parts for a MY1995 Mitsubishi Montero.

so rockauto list this one for 995 montero sport v6.

ITM ENGINE COMPONENTS 0901236
ENGINETECH MI30K1

I looked at the site and they do not list any thickness , what is the appropriated thickness needed ? how do you know a 1995 montero sport will have the same headgasket thickness than a 2001 delica v6 ? ( I'm not challenging you, I just want to know the source of the information so I can learn too and ask question with a bit more background, I hate to be the lazy guy asking stupid questions)

Those 2 items look right for your engine.

There are a some online parts catalogues and vehicle parts databases around. I use www.catcar.info to look up OE references and www.niparts.com to compare different OE references.

I posted a list of Mitsubishi electronic parts catalogues here: http://www.delicaclub.com/viewtopic.php?t=24164

Ok, so I try that :

found the OE part number MD145826 for the year and found in niparts the Aftermarket/OEM reference and for the same original part number I see different thickness and in carcat.info it does not say ( I have not seen) any spec for each part.

ok using :

https://partsfan.com/partinfo/mitsubish ... fterparts/

I can see that OEM is 1.5 so I guess that is where to get that kind of info., the part I'm missing now how to find in rockauto that info.

So I did a search in rockauto using the partnumber after getting in from partsfan using the vin and it actually list this kit :

BECK/ARNLEY 0322909 does not list the montero 95 kit as "compatible", interesting

BECK/ARNLEY 0322909 contains the cylinder head gasket to match MD145826. The rest of that BECK/ARNLEY cylinder head gasket set does not match the 1995 Mitsubishi Montero 3.0L.
