Does anyone know of, or have a list that says what has to be done to a van when it comes off the boat to make it comply with CMVSS of the year it was made (1992). I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place to inquire or if it is readily available within this site. I've searched with my limited computer skills and can't find anything. I know about the obvious things like glass, rubber and headlights, but what else?
Where I'm going with this is that I have to prove, with an engineers stamp, to NB DMV that my van complies with CMVSS of 1992.
I am awaiting to properly introduce myself on the board as a new owner until I actually get the van on the road. It is looking grim right now.
thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers

Re: CMVSS compliance list
Somebody must be able to help this guy out.
Turns out that New Brunswick has changed their vehicle import laws (even from another province!) as of April 1st. Basically you have get a professional engineer to sign off and stamp that your vehicle complies to all Canadian safety standards. Apparently none of them will touch a RHD vehicle. Seems as though NB is going the way of PEI and PQ....
I was lucky with mine in October last year, i never got so much as a second look on the funny looking VIN.
I am feeling kinda bad since i am the one distributing the delica kool-aid in the east!

Re: CMVSS compliance list
Well number one, your vehicle will not meet standards. That's a federal level and it's not imported to Canada under a federal level. It's exempt from any federal requirements or the RIV program because of the age. http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/roadsafety/safe ... ex-446.htm
Vehicles 15 years old or older according to the month and year in which they were manufactured are not required to meet Canadian standards. It says this on your Canada customs form 1 and is clearly stated there. if anyone is questioning this, show them your form 1. If they d not accept that, go to the head office and talk to someone in charge. If that fails, go to your MP and have them sort the matter for you.
Your vehicle is legal to be in Canada, bottom line. Join up here too http://forum.ivoac.ca/ when you have a moment. A lot of good advise from the members there.
Hope the information helps

Re: CMVSS compliance list
This is what a rep. from NB DMV - Public Safety, says:
Canada prohibits the importation of used vehicles from countries other than the US but provides an exemption for vehicles 15 years old and older to allow for the import of collector or hobby vehicles. These vehicles are exempt from Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS), Customs Tariff and Canadian Environmental Protection Act. Therefore each jurisdiction is tasked with the role of determining the fitness of these vehicles for use on their highways. To do so, the Registrar of Motor Vehicles requires the advice of Professional Engineers. The requirement for certification by an engineer is for all vehicles that are imported from outside of New Brunswick that are 15 years and older and that do not bear the CMVSS or FMVSS compliance sticker. This authority is given to him under section 25(1)(b) of the NB Motor Vehicle Act. This sections states:
25(1)The Registrar shall refuse registration or any transfer of registration upon any of the following grounds:
(b)that the vehicle is mechanically unfit or unsafe to be operated or moved upon the highways,
http://www.gnb.ca/0062/PDF-acts/m-17.pdf
I'll probably find out today if I can get this registered. Thanks for the help.
Salmonstream - thanks for the kool-aid even though is was a tough batch. We will ride soon!

I think IVOAC would be a better place for this kind of information; particularly this section: http://forum.ivoac.ca/forumdisplay.php?f=60
