Just stumbled across this little gem put out by our friends at CADA (Canadian Automobile Dealers Association) published April 20th: http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/arch ... c3089.html
If you read near the bottom they go on to spout off on how dangerous RHD vehicles are because they do not comply with CMVSS and say they are environmentally unfriendly due to their age, and quote the ICBC study.

They also recently published their own report on RHD called "Right Hand Drive Wrong for Canada" which they are lobbying the gov't with: http://www.cada.ca/Uploads/PDFS/public/ ... _Drive.pdf

We need to take action against this crap NOW.

The CADA graphs suggest that in 2007 less than 2000 RHD's were imported into Canada. Not a significant number in my mind. Its also nice that our little vans get a special shout out from them.

In Canada we are supposed to be progressive in reduce, reuse, recycle. They suggest giving people $3000 dollars to scrap a perfectly good car?? Why re-expend all that energy and raw material to build a new car and wreck an old one. I guess we really have become a throw away society, sad really.

But in the end, the most telling argument we have is that ICBC has not raised the rates on these vehicles as many suggest they should. If there was an increased risk, then common insurance company strategy would be to raise the rates. There lack of action shows that there really is no need to.

The real problem is how deeply into ICBC the CADA reaches.

Paul Taylor, the former President and CEO of ICBC (when all our troubles began) was the former President and CEO of the BC Automobile Dealer's Association (now known as the New Car Dealer's Association of BC to distance themselves from used car dealers).
