Our camping trips with Delica

Post by kamil »

Hi all,
I have to tell you about our first trip with our much loved Delica. It will be fun to read it for you, because of my English, so have a good fun.
We travelled all over the Europe with ordinary estate and were happy. It all changed when we saw Delica for first time. We fell in love and after few months, we bought one.
And then came Easter and time for our test trip.
We packed everything on Friday morning and could not believe we have all the staff like usually. The car was so empty, we could walk inside, sit oposite each other with small table in the middle....paradise.

We went to Battle and then to Rye/ Kent,UK/, where I switched to 4x4 for first time to drive up a small hill, because I wanted take some pictures of our new car. Unfortunately I realised to late why all other 4by4 disappeared. Warden came and told us, that is illegal to drive there, took our registration number and left.
So we parked there, went for a walk to Camber sands and then move to our overnight wild camping spot. We set up table for picnic and just before I opened bottle of wine my lady asked me" where are our sleeping bags?????". My answer "at home" made me mad:-]
So we went back to Brighton to take sleeping bagsa and drove again to Rye.

We walked alongside military canal on Saturday and then we drove to Dover and walked white cliffs. We parked in the NT car park overlooking Dover port and have very nice romantic evenig. We went to bed in the back of Deli at 10pm and wake up at 9am..such a nice long sleep

After breakfast in our car we went for a walk and then move to Elham when we did another walk and spent nice evening and night/ again in the car/.
We did more walking on Monday and went to Brighton in the evening.

It was absolutely wonderfull time, sunny weather all the time, 360miles driving, 30miles walking, 2 bottles of wine and few beers...

You can see few pictures here http://helcakamil.rajce.idnes.cz/Easter ... -5.4.2010/ and car here http://delica.rajce.idnes.cz/Delica_Easter_Velikonoce/

Excellent story. Thank you for sharing your trip with us. Your English is quite good. :-) We are also excited about going on our first camping trip with our new delica. My children are happy just riding around in the van but we would like to go camping soon.

We have spent weekend in Ashdown Forest and tried our so far THE BEST modification..self inflating mattresses. They are 7cm thick and 51cm width, so you can fit two between wheels arches/ there is exactly 102cm space/.
They are very comfy

We took my parents on holiday so we had to hire something bigger then our Deli. We missed her except fuel consuption, campervan had better economy.
Plenty of spaces for wild camping, beautiful weather...

Thank you for sharing your pictures with us - very nice. I always am envious of Europeans because they can go to so many different countries in such a short period of time: days or even hours. Here in North America, there's mostly only two countries and it takes many days to drive across them, nearly weeks!

I'll guess and say you're located in the Czech Republic?

Thanks. We are from Czech Republic but last 3 years we live in UK.
Europe is nice but so many people live there, so it is getting more and more dificult to find some wild places where you can be on your own and enjoy silence.

Hi Kamil, your stories are lovely, please keep posting. When we visited England 3 years ago, we did not know how wonderful the Delica is, so we rented a little car and tented. Now we love our Delica, it is perfect because you can just 'stealth camp' by parking on the street and sleep with curtains drawn and no one knows. Next time we visit, we will investigate renting a Delica. Cheers, Christine.

I would say it is cheaper to buy it. You can have a good one for less then 2000GBP. Let me know when you are in Uk and we can arrange some trip.

We spent this weekend near Firle/ pleny of places for overnight parking in the middle of nowhere on top the of South Downs Way/ and we walked to Alfriston and Jevington. We had nice evening walk from Firle to Newhaven with red and orange sky at 10.30pm. Then bottle of red wine and nice quiet night.
