stolen van found in scrapyard...

Post by westbound nate »

Funny thing happened today...
I responded to a craigslist ad that had 91 delica parts in parksville.
I needed an exhaust piece.
I got there and lo and behold, it was MY old van! The one that was stolen a year and a bit ago! ICBC payed me for it, and i got the one i'm driving now.
So needless to say, i knew the van and it's upgraded parts well.
I got my k&n air filter back, my fancy high-power headlights and un cracked assembly, the sliding windows from the back, the exhaust piece i needed, the wooden dash board trim, my NEW spare tire and rim, my curtain rod for the back window... all for 200 bucks. i even found my old moleskin notebook!
weird.
it's still there if anyone needs cheap parts. everything was redone by ccauto a few months before it was stolen, so there are lots of good/newish parts in there!
here's the ad:

Did the seller have any 'splaining about how he came by the van?

What are the odds of that happening?! You could contact ICBC and give them this new info.....their theft group might be interested in how the seller came to acquire said Delica........

I would also like to encourage you to either call the police or the insurance bureau.

I will be sitting here warming up my popcorn.

I have a friend in the auto recycling biz.

Usually, these folks will buy written-off vehicles from ICBC, so chances are ICBC recovered the vehicle and wrote it off, then this scrapper picked it up for a song from an ICBC auction. They'll auction off written-off vehicles all the time. Scrappers pick them up and part them out, hoping for a profit.

That is most likely the case but with what has been said about assumptions and this were my old van.... I wouldn't be leaving it up to an assumption.

I would let the police know, the auto-theft division would want to log that information. Potentially following up if there is a paper trail.

The guys at the yard said it was an icbc purchase. and that's been backed up by ccautos that said they payed too much for it ant an auction.
It seems pretty legit. there was even the silver pain pen auction markings on it...
I wasn't trying to rally any posse's up or anything...
whoops.

Just trying to let people know there's a GREAT parts van up for the picking...

Funny, I was just thinking with such a tight community a stolen van should come close to an amber alert.
Should have posted the van stolen on the forum. Then anyone finding ads with (cheaper) parts for sale and such, could be aware.
