Leaky front-end... wet carpets... aaaaggggghhhhh!

Okay, so I did the oh-so-easy re-caulking of the corner seams under the fascia panels above the headlights. Not too difficult of a job, I only broke one screwdriver bit, cursed mildly like a little old lady in church (instead of like the sailor I am), and finished the job in probably no more than two to three hours (both sides).

AND THE DAMN CARPET IS STILL GETTING WET!

Now I am cursing like a sailor!

So, the question to be asked is: where else might this be leaking? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Second question: how easy is it to remove, inspect/repair and then replace the windscreen? My thoughts are the seat for the windscreen has deteriorated and this is the problem which is letting the water in.

Other than that, I'm going to empty that whole bloody tube of goop in under the rubber seal around the corners of the windscreen and see if that don't fix it. I spent the money on the tube, might as well use it!

And if it would only stop raining here on the lower Island - it, quite literally, has been raining all this year (so far, not solid, but every day).

I assume you've reviewed this post? It's probably the most extensive one on this forum and covers the door seals and windshield issues as well which were the culprits on a few Delica.

You need to be sure that you got the caulking all the way under the windscreen - there is a lip there that is really easy to miss, and even if you do a thorough job on the other areas, you will still get wet floors. You may want to take the front end apart (again) and be sure to caulk all the way under the wind screen.

The wind screen seal can shrink, and can be a source of water entering the van and soaking the floors. Also, I have heard that the wind shields are 'dry set' in Japan, so after 15-16 years, the seal may start to leak.

My floors are wet, too. The other day when it was raining really hard, I could see water dripping in from the windscreen right about the height of the top screw for the "holy shit bars".

Oh, I read that post, and the one on the UK forum, and an Australian one, one in Japanese and a couple of others (okay, now you know I'm exaggerating), but the fact remains, I'm quite sure I did it right, but still it leaks.

Is there any benefit to getting the window reseated/resealed? Is that likely to be the problem?

I did the panels and had the windshield resealed, now my deli doesn't leak. Hopefully it will work for you too.

A silly thing here, I thought I had a leak for a little bit but then realized that it was just the water on my boots getting on the floor (it took a couple days to dry up too). Just thought I would share just in case.

I'm interested in hearing who / where I can get the window resealed as well. Did the quarter panel fix - definite improvement. Still some wet. Used talc on the wall - found water coming down behind the steering column. Suspect window, but could still be many other locations. Just like a house - water will travel and lead to the wrong conclusion.

Spoke with Speedy in Vancouver - they wouldn't touch it unless I released them from perils if they destroyed my "good condition" glass during the process.

Anyone have a shop in Van that can "reseal" with confidence?

Phone meas i do have a guy who can re-seal the windshield for your your delica. i know this guy for 15 yrs. we work together before.
he do good job & this is his business installing glass whether icbc claim or not. 604-720-6144

V.I. custom car imports took care off all the seams as part of the work they do to all their new vans.

One thing you could try is using low viscosity silicon for windshields. Just dribble some up in the corners of the windshield and it should flow all the way down to where the leaks are. You should be able to get it at Crappy Tire, Lord and Master Co, ect.

I pulled my front carpet out until I get all the leaks fixed. I'm pretty sure I've got leaks at the window since I can see water drops from the bottom of the window down... The carpet comes out easily if you don't have the hot/cold box, just two bolts at the front of the driver's seat and removal of some plastic trim.

another place for water leaks is where the gutters attatch to the roof,at front of the gutter.mine had a very small crack here. water ran off roof, into gutter,into crack. it flows down inside of windscreen post. was wet in the same area as a leaking front body seam. iv'e checked a few vans, and 3 have had this same crack. used a dab of seam sealer as a temp fix. hope this helps somone.

Interesting how so many of us have been dealing with the same issues.

* Front Qtr Panel Leak - I had that one and did the fix. Reduced moisture dramatically.
* Crack in Gutter - noticed that too, but never thought is was significant enough to allow water in. Just had roof Rhino lined and they covered right down into the gutter as well as the top of the rubber seal on the front of the van (barely though). Will watch and see how things are as the leak behind the steering column seems to have mysteriously disappeared.
* Carpet - went to remove the carpet temporarily and it was so rotten - it just fell apart in my hands. I'm now commando in the front footwell!
On the good side - much easier to ID where water is getting in without the carpet.

Hoping the Rhino in the gutter helps - I think there is moisture coming down right next too the throttle pedal - could be from the gutter area down the pillar.

Mardy - tks for info - will get the glass guy's number from you when my shocks come in and we meet up for the filters.

While buying the Delica I'm picking up tomorrow from surferboy, he told me that the driver side leak in his van turned out to be gaps around the nozzles for the windshield fluid, which ran down something-or-other to end up looking like a quarter panel leak; silicon fixed it.
